I was watching JO the other day with his family members doing their bit in the kitchen.
He made some Kedgeree and poached the fish with the eggs in their shell to cook as well. I never use the water eggs have been boiled in for anything else as I think it would have bacteria & bird poo (even if you can't see it) on there. However if I boil vegetables, I use the water to make gravy/stuffing etc....
Does anyone else use boiled water from eggs & if so, for what? Am I the only one who thinks this was wrong?
Surely you'd be eating whatever has been transferred onto the boiled items.

Thoughts please

i wouldnt use it either. Its always seems to have a scum on the surface of the water which it doesnt when i boil veg.
Thats very strange jack. I have just this minute finished watching that episode!! I thought exactly the same. Gross! It wouldn't taste of anything anyway would it? Like, wouldn't flavour the water. Or even if it did, who wants eggy water?!
Dead right - its a definite nono as far as I am concerned
i don't use the water i boil eggs in just because there's not something i want to use it for, there's no goodness in it and it won't flavour anything, but i don't see a problem in poaching fish and boiling an egg together in the same pan. any bacteria would surely be killed off by the temperature. saves using two pans too, so cuts down on the washing up, and only uses one ring on the hob so uses less energy.
True exonomy says use the water from your hot water bottle to boil your egg (Less heat required) and then use the boiling egg water to make your tea (saves on gas). At least that's what my landlady said in my student days.....

Thank you for your answers so far - I think years ago we used to have stomachs as strong as ox's!
Old Lancashire saying that egg water can cause warts, but not too sure where !!!!!
BRENDA - BEHAVE!
I don't think I'd do it myself but as boiling will kill the bugs I'm sure there is probably no health danger in doing this.
