Naughty Elephants Squirt Water! I learnt that at primary school and its stuck!
I look at a map and remember that America is West, and China is East. I've never heard of the Shredded Wheat one before.
I've never heard of anyone who needed a mnemonic to remember north, east, south, west! (Have I misunderstood the question?)
I use the mnemonic "North East South West" to remind me not to eat a certain breakfast cereal.
yeps Nauty Elephants for me too at school. BTW its not to remember the 4 points of the compass BUT to remember how they appear on a compass clockwise.
A pupil at school told me this one a couple of years ago - Never Entertain Sexy Women - they've been around for far longer than Shredded Wheat!
Even though I know obviously know the points of the compass, if someone said to me "Look South-West", the rhyme "Never Eat Shredded Wheat" would always pop into me head straight away. "Naughty Elephants Squirt Water" was also a popular one in Primary School.

No.
I also remember it from childhood days as "Never Eat Soggy Worms". Which, I guess, were around long before Shredded Wheat!
I'm surprised Colombus ever reached America without that one.
"Captain! Captain" We're sailing Shredded Eat and we need to be heading Never-by-Never Wheat!"
