I'd like to know whether baking soda is a chemically formulated substance or a naturally mined product. Thanks.

Baking soda is sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3) ie the salt of sodium hydroxide and carbonic acid. I believe most comes from chemical maunufacturing of soda ash and carbon dioxide. Soda ash (sodium sesquicarbonate) is mined as trona ore.
