In the oven
do you have red wine nothing to heavy tho otherwise all will turn purple. Roast some onions meat, when its all cooked and ur meat is reatind in the same pan add some boiling start with half a pint water a couple of teaspoons of marmite then start adding wine, a bit of mint jelly or redcurrant if you have it too, goes well with these. you can just use water if no to wine, but use a bit of cornflour to thicken.
nb you wont need the cornflour with the wine version as long as you simmer it for long enough for it to reduce.

I would like to thank anyone who has posted an answer, but the problem is that I am in France for christmas, and I want to make it more British. Unfortunately there is no OXO and certainly no marmite! I think ill give up on the gravy...
