How Much Would You Pay For A Takeaway?

The £16 for a posh burger doesn't seem too outrageous to me. It's not much dearer than the prices charged by many burger restaurants, such as Byron, and (as far as I can tell from that article) it does at least come ready cooked.

However £105 (for two people) for the Northcote boxes does seem somewhat pricey to me, especially when one considers that
(a) the portions are miniscule - see the picture in the article ; and
(b) you've got to cook it yourself!

The £90 boxes from the White Swan (again, for two people) might appear slightly better but
(a) you've still got to cook it yourself ;
(b) the price for their current offering is actually £110 ( https://www.whiteswanatfence.co.uk ) ; and
(c) the pictures here show that they don't exactly believe in big portions either!

We have had a full Roast beef dinner with all the trimmings cooked and delivered from a local pub for £22 - Delicious
TTT, we used to get four pen'orth of chips and a sixpenny cod for an old wren farthing (or two)! And peas were peas in those days, not 'mushy peas'! Chip shop peas were always mushy, we didn't make a thing about it.
I wouldn't pay for a cook it yourself takeaway. To me the whole point of takeaway is not cooking.
We stayed at Northcote and had the tasting menu with wine pairing, and believe me, it was worth every penny.
If we had one of those places close enough then yes, I’d love to have one of their cook at home boxes for a special occasion.

For me to be tempted by those boxes, Vagus, (even if I was prepared to cook the stuff myself, which I doubt), I'd need the portions to be a great deal bigger. Whoever came up with the concept of Nouveau Cuisine should be shot!

I’ve never had a delivered takeaway of anything. So if I had to collect it, about £10 a head, top whack.

you've been robbing the fishshop.
But, Woofy, it was true! That's what life was like then. Blackjacks and fruit salads were four a farthing, and fourpenny slabs were a ha'penny each. Of course you couldn't get them because of rationing; but at least the polio vaccine was free.

So your definitely not going to be tempted by the White Swan's offering then, David, at £110 for collection (and subsequent home cooking) only? ;-)

I have to admit that, when buying a takeaway myself, I tend to go for the cheapest options. e.g. I'll often opt for a Biryani from an Indian restaurant, simply because the rice is included (which makes it cheaper than buying a curry which needs rice as an extra).
We have 3 very good butchers near us so if I want a posh burger etc we buy from them and cook just as we prefer. I like venision and wild boar and they very filling.

There's a burger van in Cambridge, CAC, that sells wild boar burgers. They were a tenner about a decade ago, so I hate to think what they charge for them nowadays!

I do like venison burgers but I'd much prefer to have a proper venison steak, preferably in a rich red wine sauce and served with a very full-bodied wine too.
We had a van doing venison burgers. It was all going really well until he went down the road of stacking a pair of patties on a bun.

It was just two deer.
