Watching things like restoration home has often made me think about my own home (which is about 25 years old) and whether it would still be standing in 200 years time. Ignoring an apocalyptic event would you expect your home to be of such a build quality that it will still be standing in 200 years time?

What a good question, Prudie. As always, the answer is............ "it depends" Theoretically... Atheist is quite right. Modern building regs and standards are very good. Way above historic methods of construction. If... Standards and regs are fully adhered to. Good quality materials are used. Site labour is properly paid, and not offered a pittance to...

Mine was built in 1899, so maybe not !
Probably yes. I doesn't have lime mortar between the bricks. It will have decent concrete foundations rather than being built on wider brick courses below ground level. I'm sure Builder will put me right if I am over-optimistic.
yes, mine was built around 1780 , so another 200 is feasible - with some further updating and insulation!
Ours was built in 1780 so probably not.
snap, andres, you aren't living next to me, are you?
Ours was built in the 60s ,so just maybe
^^ No DTC--On the right we have one about 35yrs.old and on the left a row of terraced houses built about 1900. We are in Lancashire .
My home is 200 years old.
So I see no reason it can’t last another 200.
It is solid stone. Not on a flood plain.
The extension will definitely still be standing, not sure about the rest of the house, though I would like think so.
Built in the 1920s and a lot solider than some recent builds.
Yes, I have no doubt
I live in a small end terrace house that was built in 1878 - doesn't show any sign of falling down yet!
nope.
I forgot to mention cavity walls, which keep out the damp and improve thermal insulation.
60s build flat...I doubt it. Simply because something more attractive could replace what is a concrete monstrosity.

Yes I was particularly wondering about modern blocks of flats and new builds.
Mine was built in the late 17th C. No reason to think it won't be here in another 200 years. It's done over 300 so far and doesn't look like it's going anywhere. But it has been well looked after.
My house was built by Barratt Homes about 50 years ago. Surely nobody expects a Barratt house to last 250 years, do they?

If it does though, perhaps, by then, someone will have fixed the draining board so that water actually drains towards the sink, rather than forming a big puddle at the opposite end of it!
My old house was 20s or 30s, can't remember, but have no idea if it will last another 200 years. My new house is a 70s builds and I'm pretty certain it will last for a couple of centuries.
Mine was built in 2009, I guess, it should still be standing - dunno who will be living in it then though or what changes will get made with it
Mine is 400y+ but is falling down already ;)
