Good evening, everyone. I hope you’ll soon be well, Mamya.

I went to see Rocketman, the film, the other day. There was a power cut part way through, so I didn’t see the end.
What a massive talent Elton is. Just amazing.
Completely agree, cloverjo.

here ya go Kawakiri xx

Merci
Love this! That's Ringo on drums and George Martin on piano... :-)

I love a bit of Elton. I`m going to see him in Hove next week. This song came out when I was in Africa and even now when I hear it, it takes me right back to the plains and the animals.
I love how music can do that! I'm so lucky to have seen Elton for the first time in the mid 70s and many times since.
I`ve only seen him the once which was at Chelmsford quite a few years ago. I did meet him at work once when he was 50 which is scary as he is knocking on a bit now. His song Sacrifice reminds me of sitting in the kitchen in someone's house in Perth WA whilst reading the newspaper and he was playing on the radio. That takes me right back too.
Sacrifice is a huge milestone in Elton's career as, perhaps surprising to some, it was his first UK No.1 as a solo artist, Don't Go Breaking My Heart notwithstanding. It's a wonderful song. I saw him do it live in London about 15 years ago.
I`d have liked to see him in London as it wouldn`t be so far to go. He was just down the road in Twickenham a few years ago but I couldn`t find anyone who wanted to go. I think my favourite songs (apart from the ballads that bring back fantastic memories) are Island Girl and Philadelphia Freedom.
Ticking is my favourite. An outstanding Taupin lyric which Elton interprets just with voice and piano until the very end. Stunning.
I`m not familiar with that one. I`ll have to Google it. You mentioned Don't Go Breaking My Heart - reminds me of the glorious summer of 1976. I was just saying to a friend the other day that Elton John (and others like him - Bryan Ferry etc) have been around for my whole life. That's quite something when you think about it.
Here you go:
Thanks for that. I like his early stuff. That's why I found Songs From The West Coast interesting.
