This uses stewing steak, mushrooms, red wine and green peppers (but one of the reviewers used red peppers instead and liked the results anyway):

thanks but really need to use up mushrooms how long would they need to cook if i added them toward the end of the cooking time
Though doing anything with wine other than drinking it seems sacrilege. :-))

dont like red wine to drink my tipple is white
put the mushrooms in an hour before the end of cooking
Mushrooms hardly need to cook at all. (They're fine raw). So you could, as you suggest, add them near to the end of cooking.

Equally though, it's almost impossible to overcook them. I'd slice them, toss them in hot butter in a frying pan for a minute or so and then add them at the start of the slow-cooking process.
I always put my mushrooms in with everything else at the beginning- never noticed any problems?
Few things are fine raw (fruit being an obvious exception) including mushrooms' that end up rubbery in texture and with that raw taste one cooks to get rid of.
