BT tells me on August 1 that I have used more than 8gb of my 10gb in July.
To get me to pay for more than I need? Intimidation? Never gone over my allowance.

Daisy - I'm with Orange (EE) I was horrified to find I'd used nearly all my allowance mobile data within 2 days I just couldn't understand it. I phoned them and they were able to see their end that I had a hidden app working away in the background using it!! They were very sympathetic as they looked at my records at my usage and as I hardly use any at all, they very kindly gave me a "refund" of allowance. Worth ringing BT?

Not really Ann, never actually overran my allowance.
Get the same thing every month warning me.
If I do go over would prefer to pay rather than be bullied into paying for more than I need.

Still won't change my mind
Look at it from the other point of view Daisy. If you went over your allowance and BT charged you, you could complain that they could have warned you. Perhaps they're just giving you a friendly warning.
I had the same this month with Vodafone, although I haven't done anything different. I rang them and they tried to tell me it would take 7 days to work it out. After a bit more discussion, they added free mb every month until the end of the contract -free. Don't let them fob you off xx
If it helps.... And i'm not techy enough to know if it's right or not. The reason they gave me, was that if the WiFi was weaker at times for some reason, it would use more allowance. And to switch off the data part xx
I agree with bhg481. They would be criticised if they failed to warn you that you were close to going over the allowance. But they are of course hoping some will decide to increase their gb allowance. I think jennyjoan had the same issue last week
If it's just a letter /email and you've made your mind up then just ignore them. It's just a standard warning email please don't feel intimidated. If they are ringing you up that's different- just tell them they are wasting their time and must stop.
As others have said it's just to let you know you are nearing the limit. You do not have to do anything. I occasionally receive these emails but they are usually within a day or two of the end of the month. I just ignore them.
as bhg481 says - it's just alerting you to the fact that you risk going over your limit. Would you have known otherwise? Would you prefer not to be alerted?
I've had the same thing DaisyN and this month they charged me - but I'm just using the computer in the same way. I rang BT and spoke to someone who said I would have to be streaming movies! I don't even know how to do that. I'll try again armed with the info I've gleaned here. Thanks all.
Just seen that ric-ror has posted a question on the same subject in Technology - he's been over allowance for 2 months running and never has been before.

They're very smart, almost look like a Proper Shed!
