Tinned tuna costs a frightening amount of money so perhaps nobody can afford to buy fresh tuna steaks.

My cats have had their tins of tuna cut to one per month. They are not amused!
My friend Joe the greyhound has had tuna for years but when I look after him now it has to be sardines.
Maybe I should downgrade the moggies to Sardines - there would be a riot.

At approaching £30 per kilo, that's unsurprising!

My five all prefer sardines to tuna ;-)
My Tesco has it, also their frozen tuna steaks are pretty good, as are waitrose's frozen ones. I have just checked and my local waitrose has fresh tuna too.
Waitrose have it
Why is tinned tuna so expensive these days? It used to be a much cheaper alternative to tinned salmon. A friend of my mother used to add cochineal to hers and pretend it was red salmon. My mother wasn't fooled.
I think its the way its caught now. Its not farmed and netting was catching too many non eaten fish, so its all line caught which puts the price up. More and more fish is also sold fresh or frozen so there is less to can.
Morrisons have it - albeit expensively
I bought tinned tuna in Morrisons today .Pole and line caught in brine .
4x185gm tins for £2.99.Not that expensive.
Ten years ago you could get 4 for £1 so 200% increase.

My cats refused to eat tinned salmon.

Cecil - I tried Tuna steaks a few times but wasn't really keen on the taste and texture. I thought that they tasted more meaty than fishy. Think of all the money I have saved over the years.
Aldi's frozen tuna steaks are excellent and dead cheap. They're also very thick so you can sear them and still have them pink in the middle.
No shortage down my way

My little village fishmonger has some lovely steaks 100 yards up the road
In Manchester, the Arndale fish market -
in Chorlton, "Out of the blue"
In Bolton, the fish market
i get the frozen from ALDI ..very nice and good value..their hake too ..and salmon en croute yummy !
Sorry, can't help with fresh tuna, but I remember thinking the other day that the tinned stuff had got much cheaper.
just about 5 years ago a small tin of tuna flakes in ASDA was 27p...peaked at 97p last I looked was 75p
