Put one swede/turnip in microwave.
Don't peel, prick, prod, wash...just as you find it.
Cook on high for 15 mins initially, depending on size, give it a squeeze to check if it's cooked.....it makes a whistling noise when cooking hence the title :)
Once pinged...cut the top off and scoop out the perfectly cooked swede/turnip.
No more slashing yourself with knives peeling and chopping !

I have to say I did this with some trepidation but hey it worked a treat...i'm impressed ...clearly easily pleased ;) !

Blackadder...it's so simple I can't believe i've spent all those years struggling with the blooming things !
I did hide in the living room when it was cooking though ;)
Absolutely no problem at all plus the flesh is lovely, sometimes it can be a bit watery when you boil it up.
I've just Googled + found this! Amazing! I also would have pricked it, but apparently not necessary..

O_G nothing happened apart from it cooked up a treat.

I'm amazed...easily some may say ;)
Not a great fan of turnip myself, I must admit. I love leeks but have no idea how long to boil them for; nothing fancy, just plain boiled leeks.
It won't explode as the roots have been cut off it is not entirely encased in it's skin.

Bathsheba...can't believe how simple it was !

I sweat my leeks Blackadder with a little cheeky bit of Lurpak ;)
What a great tip, thank you kylesmum. I love turnip but all the faffing about puts me off. Will buy one tomorrow.
@kylesmum....I'm definitely going to try it!
@Blackadder....leeks are nothing like swedes or turnips...;)
What do you mean by 'sweat'? Remember I'm a single bloke.
Here's a Turnip singing.

You won't be disappointed maggie !
When you say turn it over half way, does that mean that you put it in standing up or on its side?
Question Author
I just chop the leeks up , put in pot on a medium heat with the lid on and allow the steam to cook them...I season and put some lurpak in when they have softened.

I'm not a tried and tested cook though Blackadder hence my excitement at being able to cook a neep in a microwave lol !!
I am with you on Lurpak; I won't have anything else in the house.

Hahaha love that name for a dog DTC :)

I didn't turn mine Blackadder...I just went for broke !!
now on with the white onion sauce, the tatties and haggis. After all it is At Andrew's Day. So scotches all around and someone chide the Ed for not posting the saltire up.....surprised at the locals such as anneasquith not raising holy cane with him/her.
