Am trying to do some calculations as to how much sugar I have on an average day to see if it's too much (and if I need to cut down) and if it could contribute somehow to my wee smelling sweet recently.

I've found the recommended level for women is 6tbsp/30g which seems a lot! Having said that, having looked at things I eat it adds up quickly! Very glad I stopped having sugar in my tea/coffee at work some time ago (4g in a teaspoon!) and don't drink it at home save rare occasions!

Seeing the numbers I've very glad I'm not big on cakes or fizzy drinks. I drink a lot of cordial but the no added sugar version.

Feeling a bit guilty about the cheeky doughnut I snaffled at work earlier (my manager had bought them as a treat - I wasn't naughty enough to buy one myself :)).

Have been a lot more vigilent over fat after gallbladder problems (was seriously shocked and horrified when I first went round food shopping trying not to exceed 3g of fat), think I'll be doing more of the same with sugar, especially given my sweet tooth!

Do you have a sweet tooth and how is your sugar intake?

OMG, just looked it up, 30.7g of sugar in a Greggs Iced Ring Doughnut, over a whole day's recommended sugar in one cheeky treat! Thinking of it having the equivalent of just over 6 tablespoons of sugar in though...ooooof! Just as well it was a one off treat!

I used to have a really sweet tooth but since I stopped taking sugar in tea it's not so bad. I used to buy 2lb of sugar every three weeks a few years ago, now I'm down to buying it ever 6 weeksish, just shows how much I was eating without realising. I've heard a lot of low fat stuff has lots of sugar to make up the taste, I don't really buy low fat stuff, come to think of it, I don't buy no added sugar stuff either, I'm wary of chemical sweetners. Chocolate is probably my biggest weakness along with coke. Does to tonic water contain sugar? If it does then I'm buggered.

I have kind of a sweet tooth, more for things like sweets and outright sugar (like on doughnuts or cereal) rather than cakes and such.

I have sugar in coffee when out sometimes but not at work or home else I'd be screwed! Nearly fell off the sofa in shock when I looked up the sugar content in that doughnut!!!!

I don't like artificial sweetners, they have me really bad headaches after I switched to them so switched back but cut down a lot.
When I realised I seemed to have a real sugar addiction-eating loads of biscuits and cake-I decided to try low carb eating. Now-there is no sugar in the house. I don't eat cakes or biscuits except for an occasional one at work. I do eat chocolate-but usually only very dark 85%. If you eat any processed foods-chances are there's a lot of sugar in it-it's even in some cheese!

I just checked my baby pack of mini cheddars, even a fair bit in those!!!

I don't have any sugar in the house I don't think. Sometimes have some in in case people come round so I can offer them a hot drink but I tend to go out for coffee so didn't bother replacing it when it ran out. I used to have cereal sometimes on the weekend but haven't for a good while now so not needed (ok, wanted) for that either.

I might go hunt in my cupboards out of curiosity...
I'm not too bad with sweets and cakes, but I do need somehting sweet at some stage in teh evening and I try to make sure I don't kid myself with low fat yoghurts or cereal bars etc which often harbouring extra sugar.

Some yoghurts are pretty bad eg this one: 0% fat but 10g sugar http://www.danoneshap...cts/show/zero/default

16g sugar in this one!

Watch out too for low fat coleslaw - its so disgusting it has to be laden with sugar!
Oh yes another one to avoid .....a medium 250ml glass of cranberry juice contains a whopping 36.3g of sugar!

I think I'll definitely be checking the labels more! Have made it this far without any fillings and intending to keep it that way :)

I'm so glad I've cut down a lot - was horrified about that doughnut! Just need to not go too drastic I guess as had a couple of tests for blood sugar lately. Pin prick test had it quite low late on in the day despite having eaten normally and a fair amount of sugar.

Not got the results from my fasting one yet though from what I've read it won't be diabetes else it'd be high which is very good as that was one of the worries with some of the symptoms I've been having :)
Whoa Maidup, cranberry juice contains that much? My kids drink that like it's going out of fashion, I'll have to find somehing else.

Wow, that's loads!!! I love cranberry juice too and tend to go for the sweetened onces as they taste less flat. I was advised to keep off too much orange juice too.
There's 26.5g in a 250ml glass of coke, less than the cranberry!
If you want to know just how bad sugar is-watch this talk by an American pediatric endocrinologist who treats childhood obesity. Scary stuff.

Frightening isn't it.

Cranberry is so sour it needs loads of sugar but this sugar level outways the positive benefits of drinking it I think. Thankfully I'm not too keen on it, but I have tried to drink more water and less fruit juice in general.

Most flavoured waters are sugar free. n(not sure if this example will link?

^^ no the link just takes you to Sainsury's drinks.

"Perfectly clear" flavoured water has nil sugar while Volvic flavoured water has 4g per 100ml - still less than coke and fruit juices though.
Watch out for the baked beans and the salad cream - loaded.
If your urine is smelling sweet (like pear drops) you may need to take a specimen to your doctor.
The average woman eats about 1,500 kilos of sugar in her lifetime. That is the weight of an average car. I once saw it on a poster.
