Why is it so digusting and why do they hide it in your food so when you are enjoying a nice indian takeaway you suddently bite into a piece of this vile stuff and it ruins the rest of your meal. Does anyone in the world actually like cardamom?

I love it - very nice in coffee too
Fabulous............and particularly agree with merciasounds.

Why bite into it?
Question Author
I wouldn't chose to bite into it. I can't understand why anyone likes it. But they hide it in your food and you don't realise until it's too late. I'm having a strop.

But only normally in the rice, not in the actual meat dish and not usally the whole pod.

I knew I would be punished for going to the cheap Indian instead of the nice posh one. Hmph.

I feel a bit Mollyish.

but the seeds are quite big, about the size of your little fingernail, surely you can see them and pick them out? Usually only 3 or 4 are used in any one dish...

Well this one was proper cheap. I was buying for a friend and being a tightwad so went there instead of the nice one.

These were only about the size of an apple pip. Maybe it wasn't cardamom. Some other grim spice. It tasted like it though.
the seeds are tiny. The husk is about the size of a small fingernail and about as chewable!
milly, Im with you! cant stand biting into a pod hidden in the rice. No matter how much you search the rice and pull out bay leaves, pods and whatever else theyve used for flavouring, theres always one little blighter in there that gets missed
I love cardamom and use them when I make a pilau. My friend use to make cardamom and Greek yogurt dessert with pistachios. It was gorgeous.

I sometimes bite into them by accident in a curry but I just spit them out.

these are green pods, the black ones are over twice the size and woodier' looking

Thanks god! Someone else on here hates it. The taste is so horrible and it stays in your mouth for ages. Even the burning of my madras didn't get rid of it.
Cinnamon bark is just as bad to bite into but again I love the flavor.
I agree with you Milly, cardamom is the work of the devil as is coriander. Ughhh! Actually the thought of it is making me gag.
I always use the black ones and they are a fabulous flavour, good in home made custard too.

I love cardomoms. Spent some time in the Far East where many of the dishes use fresh ones. Wow! Bring them on!
I used to make a wonderful pear and cardamom cake-----yumm.

I'm not sure I understand the logic of getting Indian food-then complaining about the very spices that make it taste good....at least it's *real* flavours ;-)
