Cyber bullying is apparently on the rise. It has been used by school bullies to get at their victims outside of school time, but bullying can even happen between adults. What are you experiences of cyber bullying? Is it something to be concerned by?

Yeah, fine;thanks. Not just B&S, but also sugs gets its fair share from time to time.
can we have 3 stars?
personally i havent experienced it thankfully but yes i do think it is a concern. it breaks my heart to see kids and adults getting bullied regardless of the reasons for it.
The only experience I have seen of cyber bullying is on this site.

Ward Minter was banned and so then came back as Joe The Lion. He then got banned again and came back as another name or two. He then gets banned and comes back again as Shadow Man.

Can't say he has bullied me but he has certainly bullied others on here.

But since AbEd carries on letting him back on, I guess that Cyber Bullying will continue on this site as well as on the internet as a whole.
I email you at least once a month about the abers that harrass people on here, often i get no reply but lately the response has been quite good. i think the harrassment is as bad as bullying.
your all posting here as if the editor reads your replies

You are all **********
..... oops sorry ... lol it's just so easy to do .... and the popularity of a site must increase the amount of abuse exponentially.

So the moderators are really up against it.

The net the groups .... life are all open to abuse.
sometimes ppl probably don't realise - other times ppl will go out of their way to be obnoxious.

best defence is to grow another layer of skin .... why would anyone bother what someone they have never met says?

face to face or ppl you know is a whole different thing

but in my experience as soon as you open your cyber mouth .... someone will jump in with both feet

if you don't want it .... stay silent

To some extent freedom of speech means and allows that some people will be abusive.

And disagreeing with someone isn't necesarily abuse ... however deeply that person resents their words of wisdom being contradicted.

Trimeresurus seems to think this is the epicentre .... I can only disagree ... from what I've seen the average family is more abusive than here. This is a remarkably flame free zone given that it trades on opinions.

join in some of the newsgroups if you want to see bullying ... some of the flame wars have been running literally years.

The term troll was invented to describe .... well - trolls, flamers and ppl who just love to see their names in print.

There is no name (as far as I know) for the victims - even when the victim is overreacting (perhaps lamer ... or tell-tale if I remember my schooldays).

According to the geneticists we are apes ... apes storm about making noise, beating their chests to intimidate and dominate their environment .... It's not good ... but it is to be expected.
ACtheTROLL is right about newsgroups. If you want to be really abused, post a simplistic question in Google Groups.

Don't bother posting in a science newsgroup: they treat everyone below a Phd as an imbecile.

In Google Groups Chemistry there's a very learned man called Uncle Al who's suffered years of disgusting abuse from a handful of individuals, yet he still soldiers on. Personally, I'd be reduced to tears by the names he's been called.
