Hi,

Does anyone know what is taught in school nurseries? Age 3-4yrs. Do they actually do any formal learning or is it just a more structured version of playgroup with more foucus on free play?

What kind of things will they be doing when my son joins 'big nursery' in September - so I can start to prepare him!!

Any info greatly appreciated

hi andrea,

what type of nursey is your son joining a state nursery or private?

i had worked in private nurseries for a number of years until i saw sense and started my own childcare buisness, and have to say that they dont teach an awful lot educationaly, some good ones will have teachers come in and maybe do music and french classes but on the whole dont do a lot education wise, state nurseries on school campus are by far the best at education.they do teach in a fun way the start of educationi.e writing their name, recognising letters and numbers etc.

of course it may just be that i have worked in terrible private nurseries, dont want to taer all with the same brush!
