I'm unsure how many "no" answers you are expecting.

I'd have thought the causes of high pressure were well known ?

OG.... I thought there may be someone else with very high pressure readings without a cause.....a problem......that high readings can just be, as I reckon mine are......normal for Gness...x
Not at every test gness but a couple of times I have had readings which were off the scale (eyesballs should have exploded!) but when we stopped using the all singing all dancing, state of the art brand new test machine and went back to the old one - the readings were perfectly normal.
Knowing AB as I do, there certainly is somebody who fits the criteria of your question.

Eyes are not my "thing" and my own are fine, but i think that it is highly unusual for someone to have a high intra-ocular pressure without a cause.
Must look more diligently i would say.

Thank you, rsvp and Sqad......all possible causes have been investigated over the years.....every year I am referred to the hospital and my eyes are healthy.

I appreciate that my optician is giving me good care......I'd just like to avoid the hospital visits....x
LOL......;-).......there is certainly one ABer that fits the criteria.......YOU.

But I want a pal, Sqad.....:-(
LOL ^^
You can have raised Ocular Pressure that causes no damage but I would still urge you to continue that annual check.

If you did leave it and damage did occur it is irreparable - I know because I did just that.
I have that problem and have been monitored over quite a few years now at the eye hospital, (next visit January) but with no effect on my sight or reason other than its normal for me. They were going to discharge me but as an optician was likely to send me back at my next eye test, have kept me on for a full check every 18 months

Thank you, Mamya and Milvus...(pal)..... ;-)

This has been going on for nineteen years now.....the hospital discharges me then the next year I'm back...though I have chosen a different hospital this time.....Kettering eye department is dire...

Last year I was L34 R36.....now I'm L38 R39........which I've been told today will probably increase with age....or if I hold my breath.... so I'm panting and breathing heavily to see if it brings it down.........☺
With those levels you will most certainly be advised to go every year.

Better safe.

I know, Mamya...thanks....I just wish I knew why and could then do something about it myself.....don't know what but there must be something other than wandering around like a heavy breather on the phone....x
Don't think there is actually anything you can do - panting may gain you some extra attention though, who knows?
Question Author
Extra attention.......taken away......or I'll pass out.......☺
It's not so much the cause as what it can mean for the future. A few years ago I was referred to an ophthalmic consultant because the pressure reading in my right eye was 24mmHG. The consultant's concern is that this could lead to glaucoma. Last year I had a laser trabeculopasty on the eye and it brought the pressure down to 18mmHg. The consultant continues to monitor the pressure as the laser treatment may need to be repeated every few years.
Question Author
Edmund...thank you.....I know glaucoma was a concern when I was first diagnosed.....twenty six years ago....not nineteen....I'm older than I thought...

But there have been no signs of that in all these years.

I've never has a reading as low as 24 yet have never been offered laser treatment.....I know nothing about that.

Were there any other indications, other than high pressure, that glaucoma may be a future problem for you?
No, there were no other indications other than the consultant observed that my optical nerves were a little thinner than normal. The laser treatment is for open angle glaucoma and can be an alternative to eye drops. It can be repeated if the pressure starts to rise again. It facilitates drainage of fluid out of the eye which reduces the pressure.
Question Author
Edmund...thank you.....you've told me something I didn't know and can ask about when I'm re-checked on Tuesday.......x
Wish you well gness - isn't this one of the great things about AB - look at the info you've got - result!!!
