Hi,

I have been in a new, rented house now for almost 2 years and I still havent had a gas bill.

I have rang the gas company 3 times, and the last time they told me the welcome pack and bill would be on its way.

I'm still waiting,

Does anybody know where I stand legally with this and would I have to pay the whole amount back in full.

What should I do now.  Should I ring them again or just wait and see what happens.

Any help much appreciated.

You will have to pay it eventually. Have you got a meter reading from the day you moved in? Once they sort out there admin problems they'll bill you for all of it but if you explain the situation generally they'll give you some easy payment options as they have clearly ommitted to bill you for a long time.

This happened to me with my electricity. I never noticed until I moved out 2 yrs after moving in. When I called them to let them know I was moving, they had on their records that I was on a prepay meter, but I wasn't. Neither of us had realised that I had paid nothing for 2 yrs.

Anyway, the bottom line was that I had to pay the 2 yrs worth of bills although they did allow me to spread it over 12 months. I guess if you've used it then you should pay for it which is fair enough.

Wish I'd had moved without telling them now...

I would try contacting them in writing as should anything come out of it in the end then there is written confirmation that you have tried to contact them but no avail.  I usually find that writing gets things done more often that just calling.
As Hammer says, you may be able to pay the amount over an extended period of time but the fact remains that you need to pay it.
Legally, you owe this money and they could turn rather nasty despite their incompetence until now.
Make sure you do ererything in writing and make a note of every conversation you have - Before they ask you for monay (which they will) - offer to make payment of �x (in full and final settlement of the account to date. Bet you they accept a reasonable price because of their incompetence - If they ask for the whole amount, and it is too high, take them to court for stress and inconvenience and wait for them to counterclaim the amount.

Contact TRANSCO. This is just to make sure you are definitely supplied by that supplier!  Someone, should be reading your meter, i.e Accuread at least 4 times a year too. 

TRANSCO provide the crossover etc between all the different utilitie companies, and also if you have a fault with your gas supply (externally), will maintain it.
