Halifax son has done his Maths GCSE this year (he's just finished Year 9) and is predicted to get a grade B.

I want to give him a reward for trying so hard after having to put up with years of bullying. I'm not sure how much though?! I want it to be a real treat but I'm thinking of the next few years and how many more GCSE passes I might need to pay out for!

What would you give?

How about some kind of bank/investment account, (in son's name) into which you would put an agreed amount of dosh for every success?
i still remember a note i found i my bag when i took my GCSEs (a long time ago) it said

7 grade As or more = a car.

lol.

how about a day out at a theme park?
My son got a B in maths today :-)

I've said to him that if he gets at least 4 C's next year then I will get him tickets for the V festival.
depends what he likes - in my case at O's, I did better than I hoped and my old man rewarded me with a trip to London to watch a Test Match - tbcame an annual event and in my mid 20s I was taking him - if you like cricket, a trip to the One Dayer International if you can still get tickets, his fav soccer team, etc etc
I don't recall getting anything for my GCE passes. They were their own reward. So give whatever you want, it's your reward.

In any case just because you reward one occasion it doesn't mean you are offering to treat future years the same. Are they taken in more than one year ?
Yes...they are now. My son has done 3 this year. He will do the rest next year.
my step-daughter got her grades today. her reward will be a job at mcdonalds.....
I didn't give my daughters anything except big hugs and kisses and told them how proud I was of them. They didn't seem to expect anything more than that.
I had money put in a pot in readiness for driving lessons. (I know it's a long way off but they are a fortune now, and it's something you can add to over next few years) x
My dad promised me a Vespa scooter if I did well in my 'A' Levels. I'm still waiting on it.
That's an excellent idea Pinkypie! Kindof kills two birds with one stone.
Totally agree with Iinvisible. It's not all about the money - it's about showing them how you feel about them.
Invincible is spot on..........you have already rewarded him by bringing him up and educating him.

"Predicted a grade B?"....that does't mean that he will automatically get a grade B...does it?

I was never given ANYTHING for O-levels A levels or a degree and neither were my sons......good God.......MONEY for predicting a B in maths GCSE.

It wasn't just me.........my mates were never rewarded.

Seems to me easy money which is not a good start for the competitive will he will find himself in.

"Well done son".....seems sufficient.

Sqad - is that not overly emotional coming from you?

My dad said "Goodbye son" and shook my brother's hand when he went off to Oz for a year. (I think that a hug would have been more appropriate.)
wolf.....I do have my Achilles Heel you know and it happens to be shows of parental emotion at certain times....;-)
Depends what you can afford. Most youngsters want gizmos; an iphone/blackberry would be my choice.
sqad - you are a doctor - can't you get an operation for an Achilles Heel? Take a couple of Ibuprofen and think it through.

Halifaxmum - I know someone who got a Porsche after passing his Highers - that was in the 80s and the car cost about £30k. However sometimes less is more. What about a gift like - "Be a Zoo-keeper for a day"?

I don't think my parents knew that we sat exams.
I just got cards and chocolates for mine. Wouldn't have expected anything else, but I like ummmm's idea...

If I tell you the grades I got, will you get my next V ticket, please? ;)
