As I am having difficulty with my baby sleeping at the moment a friend jokingly told me to give him some medised as it contains a sedative. I have actually used it before when my daughter was a toddler (but not to get her to sleep, never needed to) and forgotten about it but I know it used to be from 3mths but now its 6yrs! Why the big age change? And should I consider it?!

Just gone 12mths.
Because it's not right to sedate a baby. You could miss something that is seriously wrong.
If it was my baby....I would give her the medised which is paracetamol and an antihistamine (cant remember which one).
i still have some in cupboard that i am using for my 3 and 5 year olds and as i know they werent affected by it before and formula hasnt changed then i will still use it.

they were withdrawn from use as there was suggestions that they didnt work and that they may cause harm.

knowing a few parents who seemed to use it as a way to keep kids quiet and calm and sleeping through may also have had some bearing on why the age was changed :(

oh there are some out there that do, pinki, quite scary really. If a child is in pain i have used it at night to aleviate symptoms of colds /flu which is fine. But i once knew of a woman who would use it daily as her twins were a handful.
When our kids were taken on a long journey by car, aged 1,3,5,6....they were all sedated with phenergan................why not?
When my daughter lived in Czech Republic recently she was amazed at how many parent used Phenergan at night to ensure sound sleep in their children almost routinely!!
if you are considering using it for your son tigwig then please ensure dosage is as was advised when in use for younger children

Paracetamol 120 mg, Diphenhydramine hydrochloride 12.5 mg per 5ml spoon.
according to this http://www.mumsnet.co...Dozol-is/AllOnOnePage
The original doses for the 3 months+ Medised are:

Under 12 months: half to one 5ml spoonful 3-4 times a day
12 months to 6 years: one to two 5ml spoonfuls 3-4 times a day
6 years to 12 years: two to four 5ml spoonfuls 3 times a day

You nust leave at least 4 hours beteen doses and give no more than 4 doses in 24 hours

but i wouldnt use it for its sedative properties alone.
Our paths crossed there Sqad, though the two scenarios are different, one for a purpose and another as routine, I hope you agree.
mamy....I agree.....how about that date?
Question Author
Now Ive done a bit of googling on it it seems that loads of people use/used it in the past as a sedative so it must bloody work lol.
Sqad I think Medised is what you are talking about. Are you saying it would be safe to give? It contains paracetamol 120mg and diphenhydramine 12.5mg
tigwig...that is exactly what I am saying.
Sqad you charmer, it's my woolly hat that's set you off again be honest, I have matching leg warmers.
mamy...."leg warmers?"......cancel the date ;-)
Question Author
Well Sqad I do trust your judgement :) but I cant help but panic I could harm him as tempting as it sounds to possibly get some sleep. Oh I dont know!
tigwig....no big deal.....if you are unhappy about giving your child Medised...........................then DON´T
Tig....why would you want to sedate a poorly baby?? Why?

He's only had trouble for 3 nights...

Sqad...fair enough on a long journey...as a one off. Kids of that age can make you crash..!!! But to sleep at night after a holiday and a sickness bug. That's wrong. I'm sorry...it's just wrong.
