Help! Our 8 month old has for the last 5 nights, woken up crying at a variety of times from 9pm to 4:30am (last night, for 90 minutes). She's slept through the night from 7 weeks and sleeps very well. we tried calpol in case she's teething (depite the fact there's no other signs of it) and this has simply move the time of the outburst until later in the early hours. she's got the 2 bottom teeth, but no sign of any at the top. She's not constipated, not off her food and otherwise extremely happy & well. Any thoughts?

Have you changed her bedtime routine at all? Or any changes at home? House move, of course, the excitement (change in atmosphere) with it being Christmas etc. etc.? Unless she's either ill or teething, I can't think of any other reason.
check the temperature in her room, it could be either too hot or cold.. she may be kicking her covers off during the night and the cold is waking her. If you have central heating on in her room check it's not on constantly - the air may be dry.

This is probably a phase. Both my kids went through it of and on a couple times in their early years.

It could be anything from what the other suggestions were or even unusualy stormy weather making noise outside, ear infection...etc.

Just try to keep the routines the same and don't get too upset. Check the baby's temp too. If it goes on for a few more days should go to the doc to have her checked for ear infection.

mine did this when they were teething. I think they can be in a lot of pain long before the tooth starts to appear. i would continue with a dose of calpol, but also rub a little liquid anbesol over her gums at the same time. Hope it helps x
are you feeding her enough as its surprising how quickly their appetites increased...my baby at 7 months started waking in the night for about 2 weeks and when i got her weighed she had lost weight so i increased her food and she started sleeping back through the night again...

It could be indigestion or trapped wind. Have you changed her diet in anyway?

Teething is a big problem but you also need to keep your baby in there sleeping pattern as this can cause more work for you later on. I would try teething powder which is only herbal but works very well as i use this for my own children, i would also give your baby calpol night as this will help with any teething pain they may have and aids them in a good night sleep.
