broke into my son's mates car at Robin park whilst they were at footie practise in the dome and stole my son's new mobile out of the glove compartment. I've phoned orange and given them the details of the phone and they can now block the phone so that noone can unblock it without it showing up as stolen BUT they were unable to auto-detonate it to make doubly sure, but the lady said it was a good idea. is this right, it's a samsung phone, can they really permanently barr it and make it useless just using technology?

I think they block it through the handset's IMEI number...

hi snags, the lady at orange didn't ask us for that, she only asked for the mobile number, would she be able to tell the phone imei number from when it was bought (which was only 8 weeks ago grrr)

yeah that's what they said and the orange site says the same, it just struck me as odd that they didn;t ask for the imei and i was faffin about so much with the numbers i didn;t think to ask.

oK i shall believe them, I would just like to be 100% sure that they have done it right, I'll have to trust they have. No way of knowing if some techie guy on a market stall hasn't been able to bypass orange technology though snags : 0

Does it matter? Your son won't be liable for any call charges as Orange are aware the handset has been stolen and they've blocked your son's SIM...

Yes but my son only bought it a few weeks ago and now has to spend his money on another cos my house insurance excess is more than he paid for the phone!
