I know the subject of the B&B is pretty much dead and buried and anyone with any 250 free shares now knows they are totally worthless since b &b were swallowed up by the Northern Rock who were subsequently nationalised by the Government.BUT what about my B&B savings account with a few hundred quid in it?--is that account also worthless?OR is there a chance that I may be compensated by the Santander or the Government in the near/distant future? Shall I keep/destroy the passbook?

Your account will be fine. Just take it into a Santander branch and ask.
It only ever was the business that went bust. So only the shareholders lost out.
You should have been receiving statements- at least one a year. You should have had a statement of interest paid/tax deducted between April and now.
if you are signed up for internet/telephone banking your balance should still be available through that channel.
Have you tried ringing the number in your passbook or on any paperwork?
