Cheap landline calls to mobiles

I'm trying to help my dad sort out his finances, as he's just received a whopping great bill from BT (my favourite company.) He calls his son (my younger brother) frequently, from his landline, to mobile. The charges through BT seem excessive.

I've set the number up now as his 'best friend' so at least he'll get a 20% reduction. But I know that there are lots of chearper, 'dial through' numbers that he could possibly call from his BT landline, and then call the mobile number, thus saving a few pence per minute in the process.

I've had a little look online but was wondering, can anyone advise me of a number that he can dial to do this? Basically he is quite old and doesn't want me setting up any accounts or anything too tricky but I'm just trying to save him a bit of money.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Have you looked at buying dad a cheap pay as you go mobile on the same network as your brother?

It could be cheaper in the long run - you'd need to check it out.

Your father sounds like my mother. She calls both my sister and I several times per day from her BT landline to our mobiles and tends even to wait for the calls to go to voicemail and will keep listening, but says nothing, which is highly irritating, to have 10 voicemails with no message, plus she will have to pay for connection.

Her phone bills are in excess of £400 every quarter, even though she has a mobile phone.

I did see an advert on the London Underground for a company called Lyca Mobile. Maybe you can buy these phones for your father, brother and yourself. Apparently to call Lyca phone to Lyca phone is free and 10p per minute to oher mobile numbers.

If you can convince him to use a mobile, then perhaps you could put a block on him calling mobile numbers from his BT landline. My mother is 82 and manages to use her mobile, which is the most basic model.
