Try dividing 17,000 by 12 = 1,416.66
yes but then after tax you wont be leaving with that much

Im on 16.600 and after tax I bring home 1070

You need to take off 22% to get an approximate value for your tax and national insurance. Then the rest is all yours!

So on 17,000, you would take home around 1105 per month.
If you take the example above, and take 22% from 16600, divide by 12, and that gives you 1079 per month. So it's a pretty accurate estimate.
hi

if you're earning 17k, tax will be at 2 different bands, the 1st 2150 @ 10% and the rest at 22%, provided u take off your personal allowance. The Persoanl allowance is 5035 for 06/07

i.e 17000 - 5035 = 11965.
2150 * 10% = 215
11965-2150 = 9815 *22% = 2159.30

Total tax for the year is: 2374.30

NI is at roughly 11% though im not sure - cant remember been a long time since i sat the ATT.

Say 11% is roughly 1870 for the year.

if u got student loans that will be taken into consideration.

on estimate you should get:

17000 - 1870 - 2374.30 = 1062.98 roughly per month.

but dont forget any benefits which are taxable to you and student loans.
So glad I don't live in the UK, I'm on 16,440 and take home 1211.00! Come on the Isle of Man tax rates, marvellous
