Depends on the size of the school and the budget. Are you assisting a business manager or bursar?

Headteachers used to do the detailed budgeting but this is not for the faint hearted. About 70% of school budgets are used for salaries & associated costs and this is the main job for a financial person. It is complicated but easily learnt, just an area you dont want to make mistakes because it can be the difference between recruiting more staff or making redundancies.

Income comes from many sources and again can get a bit complex.

Without seeing the full spec. of the job and its requirements I couldnt say if you would be able to do the job with no experience.

the job advert reads as follows:

working mainly with the bursar, you will be dealing with financial matters including invoicing and payents as well as day to day issues of the school. applicants should hav good organisational skills, work with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail and be computer literate. they should also enjoy and have experience of working with figures. training will be given.

the school is quite small and is church controlled.
