Why is the taxpayer still funding this search when they have made a lot of money from campaigns book deals and tv appearances, isn't it time they paid their own way.?

morning mikey.......no it isn't. However it is nit JUST £85,000 it is an added £85,000 to what has already been spent. What happens if ANOTHER lead appears in 2018, will that be another £85,000 and what about an even playing field for other missing kids?

dave...if the Police have got a new, promising lead, then it would seem sensible to continue the investigation.
Divide the number of taxpayers by 85k. Not really worth getting irate about is it.
Problem is Dave.....there are two points of view.
Firstly, the parents who will never give up...a lifetime crusade and secondly the tax payer who says "enough is enough."
Personally i think that "enough is enough" has we have had these "encouraging leads " before.
Is £85,000 really such a huge amount, in the scale of things ?

Ben Needham has had a lot of funding. I think the problem here is that a lot of very judgemental people think it,was the parents fault and therefore begrudge the money being spent.
Difficult question Sqad and no mistake. I have held various opinions about the McCann case over the last few years, and I can't really make up my mind as to what is right or not.

But if I were the parents, I would want to continue the investigations until a answer is found.

On a similar note, I was watching the recent interview with the Mum of the missing airman, and what I saw was a woman that had been destroyed by the whole process. I can't hope to put myself in the position of these poor parents.
mikey......I agree...if i were the parents i would clamber for a fight to the end.
BUT...I am not the parent and as time has gone on, i have lost interest almost to the point that i have forgotten the incident....well, almost.
mikey...I think that the investigation has cost the tax payer something like £12 million up until now.
Sqad....I have an awful feeling that this case will still be talked about long after we are gone!
mikey....LOL...and filmed and written about.......LOL

Exactly, there must be a few things of things relating to this every year, a new lead, a child spotted somewhere that could possible Maddie.

\\To date a total of £11.1 million has been spent on Operation Grange.//

That's an expensive meal and drink with friends.

If it were to be found that Maddie was abducted and her abductors were brought to book, would you think it worth it then?

Zacs-Master.

\\If it were to be found that Maddie was abducted and her abductors were brought to book, would you think it worth it then?//

Do you think they are likely to find her.?

Do you think the parents should be charged with neglect?

Dave.
Avoiding my question by asking something else is a bit dodgy.
£85k will just about cover the cost of flights, accommodation and salary of a single officer for 6 months - so not a serious line of inquiry.

If I lived within the area the MET has responsibility for and I had a missing child – I would be asking why they have not spent £11million looking for my child.
Why are we giving another £85,000 when they still have £714,000 sitting in the 'find Madeline account'?
Are some of you seriously suggesting that our police would not follow up leads on any missing child?
Time to stop this now.

Plod keep compaining they are broke so they should not be funding this, it didnt even happen in British soil. Then when you consider how many other kids go missing and hardly a cent is spent on them it really is not right.

And on top of that you DO have two parents who eft their kids alone in a foreign country to go to a restaurant. That really is NOT right so why are they getting the money.

//If it were to be found that Maddie was abducted and her abductors were brought to book, would you think it worth it then? //

No I would not think it was worth it. I would be glad they were caught but the expense is too high since it has obviously diverted money and resources that could have been better used elsewhere.
Vulcan, they do not have £714k sitting in the Find Madeleine account. They DID have that amount but most of the money has been used to pay for private investigators and campaigns.
And even if they had that amount, surely you can't be suggesting people with money should pay personally if they need the help of the police? Or is it just the McCanns?
