I have been suggesting for the last year that the Euromaniacs are simply wasting their (very expensive) time by endlessly discussing the ways they intend to deal with immigrants once they have landed in the EU. They should have spent that time and energy formulating ways to keep them out. The Australian PM has advocated more than once that the only way for Europe to deal with this problem is to adopt the same strategy as our antipodean friends. Keep the out. Then you do not have to worry about cring for them, processing them, redistributing them, allocating them or anything else.
Australia is a big place – far bigger than the small Greek islands where the majority of this problem prevails. It should not be beyond the EU’s wit and resources to protect its borders.
By the way, 3Ts, I’m pleased to announce that your question has prompted this, my ten thousandth answer from me on AB. There’s no prize, I’m afraid. But your reward is that I’ve been saving my responses today so that my milestone answer would be one on a topic near to my heart.

They obviously will not as it is diametrically opposed to the idea of employee portability, written into Schengen.
Which makes me question what on earth Schengen was in aid of? Is the idea that whichever country has the best educated - minimum of bilingual - elite can freely move about, poach all the top jobs in Europe and, like some paranoid "New World Order" conspiracy, not only send money back to Das Fadderland, but also start shaping laws and business agreements to the benefit of "home team" companies and so forth?
Somebody, somewhere, was meant to gain from it and my guess is that monolingual, "never leaving this country" Little Britainers were intended to be the ones who lost out, in the long term.
I'm saying all this on the assumption that a points system would have to be based on the Australian principle of "sorry, we already have your skillset in abundance; we don't need you; kindly go away". Applying that very logic should prevent bulk movements of low-skilled workers from one member state to another.
