What do you think ?

I have been asked out to a birthday lunch from a man I met a year ago.
I dont know him well as we have only really said hello, only seen him about half a dozen times in passing. I saw him yesterday in town and he said his birthday was next month and he asked if I would go to lunch and he named a place and said he would pick me up in the car.
We are not youngsters TBH. He seems very pleasant. If I go do I take a card/present, Do I offer to pay, not sure what to do as I have not had a lunch date with a man for some time now.

He let me down last year when I first met him, that is why I reacted as I did. He was supposed to call me in August and he never did, until he stopped me in the street and asked me on the lunch date.
Hi tamaris and didn't realise he'd let you down last year and didn't call you in August and now again !
If it was me He's had his chances and you deserve better x
Tamaris, if the full story had been given maybe the replies would have been different, we can only react to what we are told.
In that case....good for you....you deserve better xx
My reply would have remained the same. Last august is rather a long time to hold a grudge for, and actually if you were so miffed about it then why even accept an offer of a second date. I still think the reaction was over the top.
I would not ever risk it!.......you don't know him!..don't ever go there...............

Thank you all , at the time of writing the above it did not seem appropiate to mention the first time he let me down, he wanted to meet up for coffee, which I agreed to. I do not hold grudges china doll and I was not miffed as you put it, if I did I would never have agreed to go out with him for the lunch.
