Hi

I have been getting a headache in the same place everyday for a couple of weeks or more now, it just sort of comes on randomly and fades after 5-6hours but it is really painful and no amount of paracetamol has managed to shift it yet it just goes on its own. anyone got any recommendations for something to shift it as its driving me mad with any loud noise or jolty movement causing a shot of intense pain around my head!?

thanks

Have you considered seeing a doctor?
Have you had an eye test?
Any disturbance to your vision....or nausea ? if so it could be a cluster migraine... but you should get it checked out
You've been getting these headaches for weeks now and instead of going to see a doctor you choose AB? You must have lots of faith in the medical advice given on here. It's not like a computer question or help with buying a present etc., it's your health you are playing with. See a doctor. It could be something serious, or not.
Leapers, go to the doctor. You could have late onset migraine as I did, or it could be eye strain, or it could be your sinuses - you need to know what it is. In the meantime, take something stronger than paracetamol - I rely on paracetamol and codeine combination tablets to shift my headache, or if it's really bad, something strong once in a while like Propain Plus. There's no point in self-medicating if it keeps coming back - do seek advice.
Some place? which part of the head?
How old are you?
Is it throbbing or stabbing?
Is that part of the head painful to touch?
Do you feel well in yourself?
I had something similar two years ago and was taken to A&E one Sunday evening when it got unbearable. It was something similar to, but not actually, trigeminal neuralgia. I was prescribed amitriptyline and it eased off eventually and disappeared. But you do need a doctor to see you!

I came to AB as i hate having to go see the doctors especially when it could just be something simple.
I have my eyes checked regularly as i wear contacts and all was fine with that in september so hopefully not much has changed on that front.
and sqad its mainly in my forehead above my eyebrows and sometimes exxtends down my nose and under my eyes too. its not really throbbing or stabbing just a constant pressure with the occasional bit of throbbing and my actual head is not generally painful to touch as i often put my cold hands on it to try for some relief, i have had a couple of colds recently too but i feel alright in myself really and i am 20.

thanks
From where it is, you describe the symptoms I get with sinusitis. If you don't want to go to the doctor, ask your local pharmacist in the chemists, they are very well qualified to recommend over the counter treatments. I hope you feel better soon.
Leapers do you drink enough water ? You could be dehydrated.
I get headaches from chocolate, could yours be dietary ?
Question Author
Might have to try the chemist i think its getting more and more often now and i never used to have headaches at all, i dont think i could be dehydrated i drink plenty of water.
sounds like a migraine to me - cut out chocolate and then old cheese.....two biggest causes of them - I didnt get any reaction un til I was 54 and then it the cheese......the old man suffered from them from chocolate but then he would consume a 1lb bar of Cadburys in a go (but didnt smoke etc)
A colleague at work was diagnosed with Bell's Palsy a couple of years ago, his symptoms were a lot like yours, along with sensitivity to cold.
2 things come to mind....atypical neuralgia (stress related) or sinus disorder (less likely)

No big deal, but see your doctor in you own time.
but go and see the quack just in case it is something else more serious......
Leapers - take responsibility for your own life - minor things can be sorted here on AB (my wasp sting allergy is a case in point) this may (or may not) be serious but without correct diagnosis you will never know - many people on here give excellent advice (sqad comes to mind) but he/they are not super human - face up to the fact you need to see a Doctor - hope things go well for you.

hmmmm....dietry doesnt sound good, i generally eat quite healthy with a slice of cake now and again, i hope its not linked to chocolate anyway!
