I am 38 years old female and I am am becoming so totally disillusioned with the UK, where I live (Southampton). All I seem to read about are murders etc, immigrants etc - it seems as if the country has gone mad. You now have to be so PC, for fear of reprisal, that no-one can say what they truly think anymore. It has got to a stage, that if I had the funds, I would seriously consider leaving the UK, which is a shame because deep down I think it is still a great country, but I can only see it declining rapidly. I don't mean to open a can of worms, maybe it is just me getting more aware as I get older, but I would love to hear others feelings about this.
Please feel free to rant, I have just heard about the sentencing of the murdered schoolboy Joe Geeling, and although Michael hamer has been given life, the judge has only recommended 15 years - there was a time when it meant life! Surely this is an open invitattion to todays' society to go out and kill, knowing that thy'll be out in a few years and be able to continue their life.
I reckon the media etc is more to blame... things aren't really that different to when my parents were my age, a lot of the fear and intimidation and bullsheet come from irresponsible reporting, cr*p tv and appalling magazine/money so-called 'culture'. Try getting people you work with to discuss tolerance and the fact we are not born to judge each other - it's pretty difficult, but bring up the cliched topics of terrorism, or more topically, veils, and you'll be exposed to a deluge of nasty opinions, judgements and anger.
Drestie, that's the million dollar question - I'm not sure, I know each country has it's own problems but there must be some place that is safe and still has some morals????
pitstopbunny - i just read that story about Joe Geeling too - absolutely tragic and disgusting. How nice to know that that boy will be walking the streets with my 'future' children (if i have any)...
Shut the gates, boot out or lock up half who are here, knock PC in the 'ead, stiffen laws for offenders, reduce taxes, allocate government funds / our taxes more appropriately... goes on and on...
I have made a conscious decision not to have kids, it would be selfish to expect them to grow up in this country. The sentence that got me is the killers of Damilola Taylor - 8 years in youth custody, so they'll be out in 3 years - where is the justice?????
I can undrstand what you are saying, I left London 26 years ago because of what it had become, but I can hoinestly say where I live is Beautiful, safe and peacefull, I moved To North Wales, I don't earn a fortune, but my quality of life is superb,I don't know what stress is, the only things I don't like about britain sre, the PC brigade, the amount of immigrants coming in, and the way we are ripped off at every opportunity, but please don't all move here, forget I told you where I live please.
Here's another breaking story.....teenager admitted at the Old Bailey today to killing 15-year-old Kiyan Prince outside the boy's school gates. The 16-year-old, from north London, has denied murder but admitted manslaughter.....pure madness!!
I should of added that I do also feel our prison sentences should be a lot harsher, not a lot of deterrant really, a slap on the wrist, I also don't like the compensation culture we seem to be adopting.
Hmmm, these things have always been happening. Its just easier these days for the media to distribute the happenings. Tke the dog mauling incident. You noticed that every little thing that happened with a dog after that, was reported on. What i want to know is where is this bird flu epidemic which was on the news so much last year?It was BREAKING NEWS on every channel...
Surely, pitstopbunny, if you left the UK that would make you an immigrant... ? Maybe you should try it and see if it gives you a better understanding of people with problems directly affecting their lives (eg war or famine) who have to leave their home country to find a better, safer place to live. (as opposed to so many in this country who'll wax lyrical about secondary stories they read in the press)
