Have you tried the book 'how to give up smoking' by Alan Carr? It works if you really want to give up. And the good thing is he encourages you to smoke while reading it. By the time you're coming to the end of the book you should have your head around the fact that you're giving up. Good Luck x

hi thanks ummmm yes ive read that book but i only lasted 3 months b4 starting again...but because its for my mum too and she wont read books i just need like a 1 or 2 page plan. But thanks for the tip and thanks for the link pea pod i'll check it out.
You don't need a book, I'll tell you in 3 words: Stop smoking now.

I know it's harsh but I have never known anyone to give up except by cold turkey. It's difficult I know but the reality is in the end you are going to have to break the dependency.

You don't give up smoking, you become a non smoker from the point yo decide to stop. Take each day at a time, save the money you would otherwise be burning, see it grow, plan what you are going to spend it on.

Good luck, don't give up giving up!
Hi there,an ABer called kepla asked about how to do this recently and it spurred me on to trying again. My 'quit date' is tomorrow...I set this date about 10 days ago to psyche myself up.I have spoken to my local stop smoking service and am being helped by the pharmacist in my village who has been trained by the local health authority.I went last night to have a 15 min chat and get a prescription for patches.I tried last year with a group and found it great but went on holiday with a smoker and started again. Now I am determined as ever and trying again. All you need to do is go back once a week for a carbon monoxide test,a prescription for nicotine replacement therapy if you want it (patches, gum, lozenges, microtabs or inhalers) and a chat if you are having any probs. Not too much trouble. They support you for 6 weeks but if you do it thru the doctors I think it's 10 or 12 weeks.Hope you succeed. The more times you try the more chance you have of succeeding.Good luck to you.I know how hard it is.
Tips I got last year...hope it helps.
If you drink coffee when you smoke...change the drink. It stops the association
Drink grapefruit juice...makes cigs taste even more foul.
When you crave do something with water ie wash car or have a shower so you can't smoke
Have sips of water or have a pen in your hands when on the phone
Take a different route to work to stop you lighting up on certain points in the journey
Use 24 hr patches not 16 to stop morning cravings
If you crave do deep breathing to help you relax
Suck Dextrose or wine gums to stop irritability...blood sugar drops when you stop.

Will add some more if I can think of any.
I decided to give up again on Sunday night, no books or patches....so far so good.

After dinner is when I want one the most, but after a beer will be the true test...I might knock that on the head too
Hi. I have recently given up myself by using the ' Easy way to give up smoking' book. 4 days now and still going strong. A little incentive i found was on the 'click2quit' site they have loads of info and you can print off your own personal calender that tells you the advantages every day you abstain. I found this quite inspiring and extra motivation. In the end it comes down to just not smoking and if i can do it anyone can( 26 years). good luck.
