I have just had coffee with a work colleague who for some reason swears in every sentence, for example - I got the f*****g keys out and opened the f*****g door and answered the bl***y phone etc. I swear myself but normally only when I feel it is justified, like stubbing your toe or something, or when I am really annoyed.

I was actually embarrassed as other people were sitting in the vicinity and I could see them looking over. I have noticed this in several people I know including my partner who seems oblivious to the fact that he is swearing. I find it totally unnecessary and vulgar and its really beginning to p*ss me off (no pun intended)

Is it just me or do other ABer's feel the same?

same to you laurence. Am only swearing 'cos you have annoyed me so thats ok in my book.
Hi warpig,

Working in building trades, I do swear a lot,but I try very hard to tone it down when I am in company, although a little mishap now and again and I get a swift kick under the table from the wife, not nice if it is in every sentence, they probably don't even realise they are doing it .
nah, ****ing things like that really ****ing **** me off too. ****ing ****holes :)

(seriously, i swear at times but not like your colleague does)
Its when you get people with young children and you hear them saying the C word, now that really disgusts me, well any swearing around children.

I swear a lot I have to admit and it's almost part of my personal make up, but I don't swear in polite company and I don't swear in front of other people's children. I have sworn on occasion in front of my children by accident but to date none of them swear ( excepting those that are now adult). I do think there are places ( the Opera, Church, WI fete etc) where it's really off to swear but by and large it doesn't offend me personally when I hear it , as there is so much more to people than the image they project and in some cases avid swearers are those very salt of the earth heart of gold types, whilst people who are concerned about their image are sometimes less trustworthy and genuine imho.

noxlumos, I am not trying to cast aspersions on anyone personality. but the fact that you don't do it in certain places and understand why you dont do it means you are capable of toning it down if you so desired. At least you realise that you do it. I am talking about someone who swears and is completely unaware that they do it and unaware that it is inappropriate in certain circumstances.
I must confess I swear all the************* time. Wherever I ********* am I just **********. and don`t give a ********* if others ******** object thats their ******** hard ********luck. *********** to them I say. At work I`m ********** known as *********** that ********** w********* who`s always *********** swearing, but ********** that ******* just makes me ********** worse. Know what I ********* mean.
Loosehead, are you trying to tell us something?
Question Author
loosehead, you can fcuk off too ;-o)

Any more language like that and you will be sent to stand in the corner .
i swear quite a lot but have noticed school hoiladay have not helped at all
I don't mind people swearing in stressful situations, (I do that myself sometimes) or even casually every now and thenfor a laugh.. but it sounds terrible/crass if someone starts this in a restaurant or something, when there are lots of people around. Even worse if they happen to have a loud, booming voice...cringe.
i do not view swear words as vulgaraties. they are adjectives (and in some cases verbs and imperatives.) in some cases a swear is needed to refelct the gravity of the situation or emotion
