If a guy you had been seeing for only about 3 weeks (and emailing before that) and knowing that he has got a very busy week ahead with working etc ( I know this is true), said 'it will give us time to reflect on what we both want from a relationship' - what would you think about this?

Could be anything to be honest; on the one hand, it might be a naff way of trying to call it off "we want different things". On another, he might be trying to be defining a serious relationship.

I'm not sure if there's anyway to find out exactly what he means without actually asking him. Perhaps something along the lines of "what one earth are you talking about??".

Im an old romantic so id say hes trying to make you feel better about not being able to see him by hinting that he will be thinking about you and your relationship.
just how much reflection is required after just three weeks ?
well basing it on your question, i suspect its NOT what you both were hoping for {thats the relationship i,m talking about} so i reckon in a round about way, he implying hes got doubts be it his or yours, i don't believe for one moment that he want's to call it a day as he sounds like the type to tell you.

I sense all is not well compatability wise, tho i may be wrong, can you give us a bit more information, what do you think of this week to reflect?

Yes, I told him I don't know him well enough to know what I want or what he wants. I also asked him, this morning, to let me know if he has changed his mind - haven't heard anything yet - I just don't want to be hanging around not knowing whether to get in touch or not. Its mental torture.

We are very attracted to each other. We get on well considering we didn't know each other existed a couple of months ago! We like doing similar things. I met some friends of his last weekend and his youngest daughter as I was invited to have a meal out with them.

He was a bit rough the day after (hangover!) and I didn't hear from him yesterday (Mon) until I emailed him this morning to ask if he was ok and got the message in my question.
bowieblue, how did he respond to that then, is he the pushey type, ie wants an instant relationship ''RIGHT NOW'' ?
sounds as though you didn't quite come up to his expectations that he developed from your emails. Maybe cool off yourself and don't come across as so desperate.
only my opinion but dont do any more communicating leave him to contact you as you may come accross as needy
Question Author
Im not going to contact him again. Its up to him now. I come across as needy because I really like him.
Maybe there's more to him than you know. Any previous relationship issues or women hiding in the wings? Anything there that he might be trying to get his head around that maybe you dont know about?
Hmmmm ..... sorry to be the bearer of bad news but it doesn't sound good to me!!! How did you meet him, was it on the internet, how many other people is he emailing etc .... yours suspiciously
