To settle an argument.

When a female's vital statistics are given as, say 36 24 36, is the bust measurement taken around the bust or under the bust? I know that bra size is the measurement under the bust, and then the cup size depends on the size of the bust, but always though that vital statistics were based on the measurement around the bust.

Thanks

I reckon it should mean under the bust..in which case we are talking about back measurement more than bust size!

It's all very well saying that a woman is a 36..but she could be a 36A ~ a bit disappointing for some males, I would think ;o)

Yes, I agree with Pippa - i believe it is the measurement under the bust. It must be a misconception then if someone boasts measurements of 36-24-36 that they have a big bust cos like Pippa said, it could be an A cup - when really they just have a big back lol!
LOL Maggie-May and what a surprise could be had when the size 32 walks out with a GG cup..then topples over ;o)
My girlfriend is 36-24-36, and her other leg is the same!

It's definitely under the bust, as a bra measurement would be.

It is a misleading way of picturing people. I've got a 36/38 inch back, but small boobs! Well done me!

Vital statistics as given in beauty contests (if they still do that, sound so old fashioned doesn't it?) mean the measurement around the fullest part of the bazooms surely?

if I ever give my bust measurements I always keep my arms inside the tape :o)

He he, I would seem to be wrong. My under bust size ain't must different from my middle-aged waist!!! What strange statistics I must have!! Thanks so much for your speedy answers, girls.
If I could discover where my bust has disappeared to I would happily answer your question at length Blossom ! Another hobnob may help !
I need all the support I can get these days!

Ah Robinia, I was sure that bust sizes in vital stats were around the bust years ago. Surely all those busty ladies with quoted 48 inch chests couldn't be that size under the bust, especially with their 20 inch waists - OMG!!!!

Sorry to hijack your thread gessoo but I was wondering if anyone else had noticed that lingerie seems to be manufactured far more for the 'augmented' market these days?

Before augmentation was so readily available & popular, I could find my bra size quite easily ~ nowadays you find so many 32 DD-G cups, whilst the bigger backed & cup sized women have to search aimlessly...

I went into M&S the other week and asked an assistant if they stocked any bras for natural big boobed people. I just got a blank stare!

LOL Shaney! I have a waist that has disappeared, perhaps it has run off with your bosom!!!
I find that too, Pippa. I find that larger bras don't offer as much support as a naturally large busted girl needs! Unless you want to opt for one of the ones that cover right up to your neckline and are made of awful white powerlace. Sexy!
The 36" is the measurement form the floor to the breast for women over 50 :o).

Hi Pippa, I am tall and have always had a broad back so take a large bra size. However, I have an average cup size and can hardly ever find bras in any shops with my back size unless they have huge cups. I don't need all the firm control bras on offer, just a pretty, normal bra. Any bras of the type I want disappear off the shelf pretty quickly, so their must be quite a few of us around. I would also like some T shirt bras but they seem to only go up to a 38 bust.

Try M&S on-line, I always get my bras this way now.

Ha ha, Jay70. I will be 60 next year!!! Fortunately, my boobs still remain in the same place (well nearly!!)

lol Jay! unfortunately my boobs have never been heavy enough to sag & they are staying put, it's just the rest of me that's slipping....it'll soon look like I have mumps.

t-shirts gessoo? tut.... what's up with a flowery blouse?

Oh goodness yes ~ try finding bras that aren't those 'over the shoulder boulder holder' types! hubby did offer to make me some out of some boat sails but I declined ;o)

I have tried M&S online gessoo ~ unfortunately the last time I looked I couldn't find any I liked in my size..but I do love the T shirt bras too. Comfort is really the top priority!

Question Author
The other problem that makes things even more difficult is that, because of my sensitive skin, I can't tolerate nylon, etc. next to it. So hence I have to buy cotton bras that are pretty and comfortable in my size. Even M&S on line gives me a choice of about 2 bras!!

My very much loved and dear grandmother used to wear her bra over her vests, summer and winter - bless her.
the number ie 32,34,36 etc is the measurement just underneath the bust,in other words, around your back. The letter - A,B,C etc is the cup size - the bigger the letter, the bigger the breast.
