I do not feel the need to socialise, I'm not bothered whether people like me or not, and I don't need lots of friends or acquaintances.

OH will speak to anyone hes the total opposite of me, I've even been known to stay in the car and pretend to look for something in the glove box if I see one of the neighbours outside when I pull up at home, just so I dont have to get in conversation with them.
I dont think its odd exactly, just not average but who want to be average. I dont feel any need to socialise either,I like meeting people and having a chat but like to leave when I've had enough (not in a rude way) but I dont need to seek out social situations, I'm quite happy in my own company.
I dont worry or fret whether people like me but I wouldn't like to think I had upset anyone or that they disliked me enough to actively avoid me. I have few true friends who know and accept me - thats enough for me.
The only negative I have thought are things like keeping up with the times, social skills, emotional health,a balance of ideas and beliefs its good to hear the other side or even debate,
I don't think it's odd at all.I work with the public but out of work I can go days without talking to anyone. I don't socialise at all so you are definitely not alone
Fruitsalad,
Did you come from a family that talked? I didn't and it has affected my whole life. I have been described as unique but in honesty people rarely get to see the real me. Friends kids really like me but I find affection very, very difficult!!
she#s always been poach, gav...look at the sparkly thongs and all the rest.
Hey,I've been reading this thread with interest all evening and to be quite honest I'm a little weary of loners as usually from my experience with loners something has happened in their lives to draw away from society.

Usually they first draw away, then anger and resentment sinks in followed by despair then finally acceptance as some people I know then start going a little loopy. I'm pretty sure most serial killers start off this way not that I'm implying anyone here will go insane or become a serial killer but it's fascinating and food for thought.
BOO at 8.13 for best answer - Brilliant !
and some people feel the need to surround themselves with 'friends' to boost their feeling of self-esteem, or over jollificate themselves to hide the fact they are shy. When friends move on they find themselves lost as they cannot bear the thought of having to cope with themselves.
JennyJ - I don't socialise with my kids friends. I was brought up in a pub so know lots of people. People talk to me I don't talk to them.

My friends are mainly my family.
okay doke Ummmmm - fair enough.
