For the last few days I have have had an occasional stabbing pain in my breast. It is worse when I am bra less and there is more free movement. There is no discolouration or anything to be seen on the breast.

I am mid forties have not had a period for over a year and am taking no HRT or contraception.

Any thoughts?

The obvious one of seeing the GP will be addressed in due course.

I had that feeling one Friday evening - altho my breast felt burning and ready to burst. I got a reassuring answer from Sqad saying it was fine - I couldn't wait for Monday to see GP but by then the pain had gone. Hope yours goes. Maybe hormonal.
Which part of your breast (or all?) and just one or both? Is it more an internal pain or skin/surface and is it nearer anything more specific, such as a nipple?
It is extremely...extremely...unlikely to be anything to do with malignancy.

My bet is that it is muscular in origin.
If it is under your boon it could be fungal. But there should be something visible.
I would guess it's hormonal.

It is like a red hot poker being occasionally inserted into the top right hand quarter of my right breast if you take my nipple as the centre point.
I`ve had that a few times. I didn`t think it was muscular as there are no muscles in the breast itself. I put it down to "one of those things" and assumed it was hormonal.

I wondered if it was something to do with the Coppe's ligaments.

How long could hormonal discomfort continue for?
Question Author
^^^Cooper's ligament.
My pain was/is like you say - someone sticking a red hot poker through the breast from one side to the other. It`s a very fleeting feeling. I`m certainty not worried about it (despite the family breast cancer history)
Question Author
I'm not worried about malignancy, just worried about the acute pain that can be literally eye watering when the poker is particularly hot and sharp :-(

I'm just surprised that is being put down to hormones such a while after my last period.

So am I!
Is there a reason you're not having periods?
Are the lack of periods due to intervention, or did they stop naturally?
My last period was more than a year ago and I still get intermittent breast pain. For some reason, I have it now. It is like the breast pain before a period. I don`t know why it has come back but it has. It`s just one of those things.
Now you mention it, this is a long shot but it has made me think. When my Dad died in 2007 I got really bad breast pain. I couldn`t sleep on my front because the pain was so bad. I wasn`t menopausal although I know that perimenopause can last for several years and that can give strange symptoms. Now my Mum has died and I have breast pain again. I think that your hormones can be affected by your emotions (I remember that a friend of mine split up from her fiance and didn`t have a period for 6 months afterwards). Do you have any stress in your life? Maybe it`s to do with that.
Question Author
No idea why my periods have stopped but it is certainly fair to say there is an awful lot going on in my life at the moment.

I'll just try to ignore it and muddle on.
Question Author
Stress may be a contributor 237, I'll bear it in mind.
