A man in his 40s who suffered head injuries some years ago in an accident had been behaving even more strangely than usual. A scan shows brain changes. We know he's not going to get better. Could this indicate the beginning of the end?

Is there anything physically wrong with him? That's what is going to kill him.

Does he have any quality of life?

He was in a good place but violence towards the staff meant he had to move into a psychiatric hospital. I wouldn't say he had much quality of life.
Not a very pleasant way to live. I am not sure when the doctor will be here to see you.

I know that if my life got that bad I would be wanting it to all end. The brain is a powerful and scary thing. Psychiatric hospitals are pretty unpleasant too - I had to ask for a plug for the bath. It was considered dangerous to leave lying around.

Good luck with finding some answers.

Sandy there comes an age to all of us that heralds the "beginning of the end", the trick is, identifying it, not that it would make much difference if we knew ;-)

But back to your question:

One should not necessarily assume that the changes noted in the brain scan were secondary to the history of head injury, although it has to be considered.

Without knowing the nature of the changes and the anatomical position of these changes one cannot offer a worthwhile opinion.

Sorry.
