Really silly question - but here goes...... when doing the above should I be breathing through my nose, mouth, both or does it not matter? I'm doing this on the recommendation of my GP for a bout of sinussitus, combined with a course of strong anitbiotics

Neither really, just put your head over the steam and just breathe normally. It cured my daughter's earache.
Personally, I have always inhaled through my nose but not sure if it matters. Don't know which is the correct method. I have used Olbas oil or menthol crystals.

I manage to drop of to sleep without a problem but I must 'dry out' during the night and that sets of the coughing reflex and wakes me up!! Vicious circle!

Take some Pholcodine or just a couple of Codeine tablets. My husbands GP recommended them for a cough.

Be careful not to burn your nostrils when inhaling very hot steam.

Hope you feel better soon. Its miserable when these colds hang on so long.
have you tried Sterimar? soothing, easy to use and works amazingly on sinusitis.
