...I know this should really go in Animals and Nature but since most people browse chatterbank and me getting desparate, its coming here.

Yesterday Max (cat, see avatar) went to the groomers as he needed a tidy and a freshen up. Since then his oppo Henry has done nothing but hiss and spit and growl and lash out at poor Max and all Max wants is for Henry to play like normal, (they are normally really close). We have tried to give Max back his normal scent but this hasn't worked. I have currently shut Max in the 'play room' where they usually sleep and go when we are out for long periods of time to see if we can get his scent back, so that Henry will also go back to his usual self, but if this doesn't work is there anything else that anybody can suggest to bring normality back to this pair and to my life.

Many thanks, a stressed Queenie

you need a boxie or barmaid on this one, QoM.......good luck. Tried rubbing him in his blankets?
i don't think you can do anything apart from let max groom himself and let them sort it out.

I've tried the only thing Max has been on and was my pillowcase that went out for laundering, Max tends to not use blankets, he much prefers a cold surface like a box lid or a shelve or window ledge.

I've thought that too mccfluff, but thing is I have to go back to work tomorrow and nungate will be left with them but I don't want to have to come home to her at half 5 hair all over the joint, saying something like 'your bl**dy cats
This used to happen when our persian came back from the groomers, we found out the best way was to make them smell the same so we deflea'd them.

By that time they were so pissed off at us they forgot what they were fighting over!
Hi, have you tried this forum, maybe they can help. I've had cats all of my life and have never had your problem.

lol that may work. do you brush them, maybe brushing him with the same brush?
Question Author
I'll try anything, never thought about brushing them, might give that a shot and I may try that too fgt, I'll have a nosey katburd thank you :)
I'd try rubbing them both with something smelly like tuna and then let them bash it out.
this is another site were they are discussing the same problem as you are having, maybe you can have a read at those entries too, maybe of some help,

Thank you Katburd, I feel better now I know this may only last a short space of time. I've put them both in the play room for a bit and took in a plate of food and they both went for the plate so fingers crossed.

I hope they are going to get on as I want my pillow back at bed time tonight
Hello queen.
Cannot suggest a solution for the cat .... But i do hava a spare pillow --
so glad you are in the process of getting it sorted, the other suggestion I was thinking about was catnip, if my cat is pestering me too much I just put some catnip on his stand and he goes crazy (a nice crazy, cats love it) and it's a distraction too. good luck x
I've never had that happen, Henry must be saying he doesn't approve of Max getting tarted up. Perhaps he doesn't recognise him :-)
Question Author
Aww thanks Excel, don't mind if I do. He slept on my pillow all last night, he's a bit of a tank and I had to fit my head inbetween his paws and body on the remaining pillow, I did however enjoy his purring in my ear at times
Know what you mean
I used to love getting cosy with my cats (sigh) .. I miss them.
Question Author
Thank you for the suggestion Katburd. I do have some Catnip I found today. They didn't even come when I ratteled the Dreamies bag :/ but hopefully all will be settled before bedtime tonight.

Its possible boxtops, Max has been away at the 'toothfairy' overnight and Henry has been ok on his arrival so I'm guessing it could be something along those lines and stuff. Henry can be a wee wick at times but I'm mum and I'm the boss so he can pipe down
Question Author
I know how you feel Excel, I still miss our Jess loads
I'm sure they'll be fine.x
why do we do this "I can't move, the cat's asleep" thing? Last night, Black Spot was sleeping on my side of the bed and I needed the loo... I made OH get up from his side, so I could get out. (Fortunately OH wasn't asleep!)
Because they own us, boxtops.
