I woke up today with a stinking cold, already on second box of tissues...

I am starving but haven't been shopping and really can't be bothered getting off the sofa.

Please, feed me......

it means "if you feed a cold you will starve a fever" - ie get something to eat and this will stop it turning it into a fever. Better be quick, though
Question Author
I love the smell of roasting chicken....

VnC, is the beef rare?
the idea being that if you build up your energy and eat well you will stave off a cold getting worse and becoming bronchitis or pneumonia
Question Author
The fridge might be bare beyond lemons and tonic but I think my in built reserves will be sufficient to keep the fever at bay.

I am ravenous, I can't believe the fridge is so empty and the freezer so full of errr....frozen things.....
Chicken soup with freshly baked bread is just the stuff for stinking colds. Then just before bedtime a hot toddy of whisky, fresh lemon, honey and a little fresh ginger.
