for some reason, i am on the side of the restuarant owner. however, he could have handled it better if you ask me!
Agree

Wait for JJ's views, she probably knows the restaurant owner if not the guys, given one was a rugby player.
we went for lunch last monday to an all you can eat pub an the food was amazing but once we'd eaten then we had had enough, so yes they are pigs
They were taking the pi$$ and they know it.
I can sympathise with the owner but if you advertise "All you can eat for £xx" can you really blame the customers for taking him at his word?
Having looked at their website http://www.gobibrighton.com/ I don't really see that they can argue with this pair, beyond ROAR rules.

When you offer his kind of deal you have to accept that there will be greedy folk who want to take full advantage of the deal the host is offering. To complain that they never left a tip is irrelevant as tipping is not obligatory.

I do feel this pair were taking advantage though, but the advantage was there to be taken.

As much as it irks I have to side with the customers, from the advertised deal they have done nothing wrong.
The one on the right is trying to hide his double chin.

I sometimes go to a local Chinese buffet with the family. It is £4.50 for lunch which is excellent value. They don't even make you buy their drinks as they offer tap water in jugs which you can just help yourself with. I always tell my children never pile it high as you can go back as many times as you like. We are not massive eaters like these two blokes and I assume they are eating everything on their plates. I was at the buffet place recently and a bunch of teenage girls piled up their plates but left a huge amount of food. The owner wasn't happy and said there would be a surcharge for wasting food (only £2 more). The girls weren't happy about it and there was some tutting and face pulling from them as the girls thought it was out of order they had to pay more. The owner does have a sign to say large wastage of food will be charged.

I don't know why but when it's a buffet, people have the tendency to put loads on their plates only to leave a lot of it as they fancy tasting something else, so then go back and get another plate of something else.

LOL Hopkirk!
A Chinese restaurant I have visited does eat all you can buffet but serves it as individual dishes, rather than a traditional buffet, which means freshly cooked and your choice. They state, quite clearly that dishes left un-touched will incur a charge of £x. Seems fair to me and mitigates the greed factor.

I think that sounds a good idea, Eccles and if you have to keep ordering dishes with the waiting staff, you might feel bad ordering too many. I know I wouldn't want the staff to think I was a greedy guts! There's a Brazilian restaurant in town but I've only been there once. You help yourself to salady bits and they come round you table with the meat and carve it on your plate. I must admit, they don't put that much meat on your plate and although they will come back if you call them, I always feel too shy to ask for more so I go home feeling I could have eaten more sausages!

* your, not you!
They have been scoffing there weekly for upwards of two years..........I think the manager has been remarkably patient, given the circumstances.
It's all down to good manners ... they were taking the wee!
// The one on the right is trying to hide his double chin. //

He's probably worried the other one will try and eat it.

Greedy pair of wkaners.
them. if you offer this to customers - in order to tempt them in you cant then complain just because people actually do it

they paid like everyone else.

sure they were a bit greedy, but the restaurant made the offer not them - it doesnt say - "all you can eat!- except big fellas who may eat a bit too much"

they have not stolen.

the restaurant should change the deal to add a limit to the number of refills - but THEY greedily made claims they didnt want to honour, in using tempting language they didnt really mean.

they know most people dont eat much more than a few bowls so why not say 4 bowl buffet?

i dont blame them being peeved watching this happpening but its their own fault and they are acting badly now.
and yes, tipping is not obligatory - so should never be expected and certainly not cause to get huffy!

also what would the tip be for? its a buffet! they are serving themselves!
I support the customer - if you are stupid enough to make an offer like this then you should honour it for ALL, not just ones which suit you.
If I were the restaurant owner, I would be pretty naffed off too... & change the plates to the size of saucers when I saw them coming... maybe they might either get fed (pardon the pun) up of the refils or lose stones on their sprint up to the table!!!
The operative phrase here is 'all you can eat' buffet

I don't see them advertising it as 'all you can eat but if we think you're being a pig we'll ban you' buffet

I'm 100% on the customers side, if the restaurant owners don't like it they should stop offering it
