Has anyone ever had a `pile` surgically cut out and how long does it take to heal afterwards?

Yes last month, also had two lumps removed as well though. Took about 3 weeks to heal fully. Warned me that it was a very painful operation, as they cannot stop your bodily functions, and they were not joking.
No......I was offered, but refused and it healed by itself.....well with the help of dilators which I inserted.

Should take about 2 weeks to heal if removed surgically.
I believe times quoted are for full excision as they are similar to what I was told. There is this as an alternative.

I was advised by just about everybody that the phenol injections are next to useless.
I was asked before the injection if i was allergic to nuts [would you believe?]
Apparently nuts or peanuts is one of the ingredients of the jab. Didn't work
for me. Trying to stop getting constipated is not easy either
injections have worked for me. They have some sort of almond oil, hence the question about allergies.
Many years ago using the 'Elastic Band' method and very successful. problem minor and ony for a couple of weeks. Job well done.
Just noticed Sqad's plural dilators. I only managed one at a time.
HK......LOL....I had to stop using them as i was looking forward to slipping them up.....LOL

The OP asked about "surgical removal"......nothing to do with elastic bands or injections.
So much depends on the vein, I was advised too big and nasty to be injected, or cut and tied. Removal was the only option, hopefully they would not want to remove Carlton 23's unless it was beyond alternative treatment.
Hello Carlton - Mr. Towie had this operation a couple of years ago - afterwards it was very painful, it took around 6-8 weeks to heal completely.

My thanks to all, but I think I`ll pass on all suggestions as I`m on negative time now, and I may be in for enough discomfort in the near future.
Bill in your situation, I too would pass on painful surgery, try to get the best comfort from other topical treatments as you can.
I hope you are not in too much discomfort, I have read your posts, and hope you have loved ones around you can talk to and to help you, you seem such a lovely man, I am a carer my self and look after the elderly and and have looked after people with all different illnesses, all the best to you. x
