I recently had a root canal treatment with two jabs into the gum and didn't feel anything. I didn't know it was normal but then what do I know?!
Not an unusual reaction and is due to the adrenaline in the injection.
Significant relationship between anxiety, gender, injection technique, and procedure with a higher incidence of adverse reactions.
i.e.......nervous women.
And you don't get nervous men?
What on earth has gender to do with it?
BOO....don't blame me.........just the results of many scientific studies.
The didn't mention the word "phobia" though...;-)

Not nervous at all sqad but I put it down to already feeling unwell after having an infusion of Zoledronic acid earlier in the week and have been feeling unwell since then, but as I said, I've never reacted to an injection like that before in my life, found it quite scary really.

I'd rather know if it's natural to feel that way even though I wasn't and have never been nervous of going to the dentist.
Squad, could it have anything to do with the infusion?
missprim.....there are well recorded cases of drug interaction between Zoledronic Acid and local anesthesia.
You should have mentioned it to your dentist as that may well have been the cause of your bad experience.
pg 136 states "there was a higher incidence of adverse males than in females"
BOO..........good.
sorry...meant adverse reactions in...

I suddenly started to feel peculiar in exactly the same way after an injection at the dentist.
I am not nervous of dentistry at all.
My dentist too assured me that it was a fairly common response to the adrenaline in the injection. He then arranged for me to have injections without adrenaline and there is no problem with these.
He forgot once and I forgot to remind him and I got the 'shakes'.
I moved to another dentist on his retiral and explained the problem to him. Again he arranged for me to have injections without adrenaline and I had no problems. He too forgot once (and I forgot to remind him too) and again I got the 'shakes'.
Nothing in the slightest psychological about it, just a reaction to adrenaline.
It is a bit scary if you do not know what is going on, but it passes very quickly...more a nuisance than anything else... and hugely embarassing for the dentists who forgot.
(I could see the £ signs flashing in front of their eyes as they wondered if I would sue or report them for whatever people report dentists for)

Question Author
Sqad I told my dentist before he started the treatment today that I had had the infusion but he made connection to the way I reacted to the injection and the infusion.
I have to go to the dentist again on Tuesday and will again have to have an injection.
Am I likely to feel the same way again?
missprim.....I don't know.
Have it done WITHOUT local anaesthesia then....;-)
In my experience not if he gives you an injection without adrenaline.

Question Author
Thanks for that ladyalex, I will ask when I go on Tuesday if I can have the injection without the adrenaline.
