Hi all,

I have a horrible cold at the moment. I was given Amoxicillin from my Doc on Tuesday. I have woken up this morning with a very painful blocked ear. My problem is I am flying on Monday and I am wondering if the Amoxicillin will be enough or if there is anything else I can take to help?

Thanks :)

DTC.....How doe you reconstruct a Eustachian tube?

That is cods wollop.
Sorry DT, hot, moist towels are a no -no over the ear. They create a warm, moist envionment that is just perfect for infection to thrive in.
This was the States, not the butchery shop of the NHS, sqad.

It bloody well works though, SJ...
I`m afraid it doesn`t DT and if you think about the science of what happens to your eardrums when you take off or land in an aeroplane, it can`t possibly work anyway. I can understand where you`re coming from though. There was a myth in the airline world (about 15 years ago) that sticking a plastic cup with a hot towel in will help your blocked ears.
I am a great advocate of USA medicine, but that is sheer and utter cr@p about the reconstruction of the Eustachian tube.

Vcoke has got a simple upper respiratory tract infection which will settle on simple measures.......some of the posts are truly "fanciful"
DT I find your post..INSULTING....I have done more middle ear operative procedures than you have had hot dinners and there is no such thing as Eustachian reconstruction.
And I find yours extremely INSULTING and ARROGANT, sqad, and not the first time we have seen that, is it?

And I note that you are forgetting one very important thing, and that is WHAT IS BEST for vodkancoke.....
Al right now, move along, move along.

There's nothing to see here.

Move along please.
Calm down lads, there is only so much testosterone I can take on a Friday night! :-)
DT...yes....you are quite correct, many of my posts are arrogant and insulating and yes,the Eustachian tube can be damaged and reconstructed.

you are correct.
Thanks, now while I am off to the pub, work on the spelling and we are there. Lol

A mountain made out of a molehill by both sqad and me, SJ. I come back to it, it's Vodka's ear that counts, not our head-butting....

I do find it interesting to google the topic though...
I will apologise if I ruffled your feathers, sqad.

I am not a doctor (of medicine) but I do work along science, engineering and medical science translating their research work into more understandable speak for the public at large, particularly for marketing, pr and communications, and sales.

I thought about medicine and indeed one of the more "revealing" and challenging visits I have ever made was to the School of Tropical Medicine in Liverpool after As - very inspirational and having been a patient of the Tropical Docs, (liver triglycerides etc from so-called sterilised bottled water in Somalia) I have a lot of admiration for the time and dedication they give, as it isn't one of the showy and well-rewarded areas of medicine.

Pub calls now as Mastermind is on and that isn't about intelligence, more about photographic memory.
DT.......LOL......forget it.

We both enjoyed it..........LOL

Friends?
How good to see two highly intelligent and respected members of AB sort things out amicably. Well done both.
Friends? Sqad don`t bother. DT is sitting in the "Snug" of his local now and he can`t hear you. He`s by the fire, browsing the Daily Telegraph, drinking a pint of the finest local ale and waiting for his order or chicken in a basket to arrive. Happy days.
But at some point, one returns, SJ, and your descriptor wasn't that far from the mark, a glass of red grape juice, just the DT Quickie (the big one done), no food as I had it here, but plenty of company with locals who had visitors and a weekend of wanting to show them the local colour (read getting blitzed).

I would have stayed longer as there were some disgraceful non-pc jokes flowing....not repeatable here, but the mater would have ripped out the TV cables as she can't handle the zapper or the plugs.

Is vodka ok with her way forward - that is what matters.

Friends, yes, why be overly hostile on here.......?

DT I am so confused now about what to do! lol I have taken Sudafed, my Amoxicillin, paracetamol and nasal spray. I have done the menthol crystal thing too. It's still blocked but I have no pain now thank goodness!
Question Author
Sorry meant to say, thank you for your help and suggestions :)
Don't think there's much else you can do now except repeat the sudafed when you can and keep on with the inhalations.

As the pain has gone, it sounds as though the amoxicillin is kicking in.
