Hydrocortisone acetate cream- coldsore

I bought Hc45 planning to put it sparingly on a coldsore i havr on my nose (again!!!!)

It has like 4 heads on it..pretty big! Im using aciclovir aswell and compeed patches at night...problem is the hc45 box says NOT to use on coldsores :0(

But its so inflammed normal creams just dont work so great :0(

Why cant i use the hc45 on it x

Steroid creams are not advised for cold-sores. However, I have seen Sqad say "go ahead and use it" - so, your choice!

I shouldnt say so....but i have!! Twice...it needs something extra...its a mess!! X

you want to be shrinking it, whereas hc could 'feed' it!

btw have you tried olbas oil on a cotton bud? x

You are likley to feed it and spread it more ........... Zovirax works initially but I also use Boots own Coldsore liquid as it seems to stop spreading (and it's clear so you can use it lots when out and about) Once it dries out and start receeding vaseline at night will stop it cracking. I have also, occasionally, managed to stop them developing if I dab them with something containing ethanol the very second the tingle starts (aftershave or perfume will do)

I tend to rest an ice cube against a coldsore for a couple of minutes 2/3 times a day

It's not an instant cure but certainly reduces the inflamation and gets rid of it quicker

As long as you are using your antiviral ointment, I see no reason to withhold the steroid ointment.

are you sure it is a coldsore and not impetigo?

Id take a pic but im MORTIFIED it can go about the size of 5p ...

Positive its a coldsore because this is 3rd or 4th time ive had in exact same spot and even when its away theres always a slight red spot where its been when i have no make up on :0(

Its when im run down or wound up!! Thanks for the tips its hopefully healing!!

Im exfoliating scab off, putting patch on...when patch is off slathered in zovirax and hc45 with the odd ice cube lol!!

No boyfriend for tinks tonight!!!!!! :0( xxx

Garlic is supposed to be good for inflammation. I have read of advice for an inflammed acne spot to place a bit of garlic on top and then put a plaster on. Your face might be a bit smelly afterwards though. For cold sores is there not supposed to be some beneficial effect from putting coffee on it?

For me, a massive sufferer - like right now again, Blistex is the only remedy. Used to be called Blisteze. Spread it all over frequently.
