Dr Filth.....just the advice that my grandma gave me..;-)

We also had Carbolic soap......why can't the "great unwashed" rediscover it?
Nox, ever been in A&E, and watched horrified as i did when the effin drunks, druggies rolled in, men and women, being sick on the floor, fighting each other. There was i alongside some people who had more need than these peabrains, like the cancer patient who looked end stage, left alone except for the drunk on the next trolley, stinking of booze, yes rowan is right in many ways. A&E at any point is not for the faint hearted, nor is it helpful with some of the lowlifes who tip up there.
I felt very sorry for them but it didn't stop me feeling nauseated from the smell and anxious from the verbal aggression... There were people refusing to put cigarettes out, shouting, swearing and I actually found the whole situation intimidating...so maybe my comment didn't come out as I intended
rowan....you are right....for God's sake don't back down.
RW, you are so right and so is Sqad
I feel if people want t use the services they should at least show common courtesy to those offering it...
be prepared to wait 15 hours
Fair enough rowan, now that's far clearer.
Em- I'm 51 years old, lived through the troubles in Belfast, lost friends to them, have a large family, do you seriously think I've never been to A&E?
Whilst I appreciate that A&E isn't a bundle of laughs, EVERYONE has the right to avail themselves of it without being made to feel ' second class' because they have social problems like homelessness, it's a NATIONAL health serviced for a reason- it serves the whole NATION regardless of status or income - we are almost unique in that and it's not something I want to see changed tbh.
this is an old report from 2009 but i have been told to get down early ie they start the queuing at 4-30am

one life for those with money and a completely different one for the low paid and unemployed
Nox, whilst i appreciate what you say, the simple fact is that there are many
who use and abuse the NHS, not least those i have described.
Dr Filth

\\\\\one life for those with money and a completely different one for the low paid and unemployed\\\

Exactly...that's how it has been and that's how it always will be......that state persisted even under Communism.

All people can hope for is equal opportunities from childhood and that i would totally support.
So what do you do Em, take it away from them? Maybe there ought to be a doorman on A&E who decides if you look decent and trouble free enough eh?
NOX

\\\\Maybe there ought to be a doorman on A&E who decides if you look decent and trouble free enough eh?\\\

There often are, particularly at weekends, but they are not called doormen, they are called policemen.
Df, forgetting the fact that many people take out health insurance, they don't necessarily have lots of dosh, it's just that waiting for the NHS to do something could take too long, and sometimes be too late to do anything. I have used both, and disliked private practice, but having been in NHS hospitals and witnessed the slipshod, careless attitude of the medical, cleaning staff not sure where my allegiance lies. Our company had private medical health insurance, as do many companies, so your argument about one rule for the rich doesn't really ring true.
They are there squad to make sure things go smoothly not to decide who does or does not gain medical treatment as you very well know.
Sqad thing is when i was a kid you could pay 10 bob and a irish bloke on wilmslow road would pull it out any time of day

my dad had one out at gone 10pm , it was best to see him early on as he wasn't as drunk

you could take your pick of which dentist to go and see

these days you are lucky if you can get in to see one, people travel miles to see a dentist

last time i had trouble i offered to pay private to have it pulled out , still no chance
I have this before, there should be drunk tanks, i am sure they do this at Christmas, where they could be put, to sleep off their over indulgences. That way they are nowhere near the people who are there to get treatment, actual medical emergencies.
"said", missing out words now..
Dr Filth.........well there you go...that's what the dentists think of the NHS and private dental care is now so well established and sought after that they can pick and choose.

"We will look after you from cradle to the grave".......!!
Unfortunately the main problems are alcohol related... but they can't take chances just because someone appears p1ssed as a fart doesn't mean they can't have a head injury, uncontrolled diabetes, or another serious problem....
