When I was a kid back, in the fifties, Mum used to give us cod liver oil and malt, I can't say that it did or didn't do any good but it tasted F*****G revolting
Apparently its not medically proven to help, but Omega 3 fish oils do. I've been taking them for a few years now for arthritis and definitley noticed a massive improvement. Maybe coincidence, but I'm not going to stop taking them..
I've tried glucosamine...didn't help, but at least I wasn't tasting it all day.
Doing Tai Chi now, which is helping, I think.
I was very sceptical of it at first, but enjoyed the classes , kept going and I do think it has helped my knees and shoulders. Certainly hasn't done any harm and I've met a lot of nice folks.
Malt extract - my mum used to work for Dewars and could get giant jars of this stuff really cheaply. Problem was only the dog liked it, actually he loved it. We would stick some in his bowl and he would chase the bowl around the kitchen for ages.
Omega 3 - my psychiatrist advised me to try the really pure stuff and it really does help. I get these -
I doubt if anyone here will admit it, but do you remember the 'utility clothing'? All the coats I wore were second-hand and the label that showed their origin was in each of them.
Don't remember 'utility clothing', sorry.
But I do remember wearing a beret to school . (primary school)
And Burberry...well it looked like a burberry, I'm sure it was just a raincoat really.
What with my raincoat, beret and welly boots flapping round my knees, I must have been quite a sight. (It was always raining.)
I loved the orange juice as well, mum used to get it from the clinic, I think that the feeling was that kids just after the war weren't getting enough fruit and vitamins. Dad used to help out at a local shop and he'd take some of his wages in goods, and I remember the excitement when he came home with 3 bananas for myself and my sisters. It seems hard to believe that we didn't even know how to open one up but it tasted great and even now It's a rare day that I don't have a banana
