Im skinny: do i work out, or put on more weight first!!?

Hi, Im 18, 5'10 and I weigh 10stone. I am not ridiculously skinny, but there comes a time in a mans life when he just wants to stop his girlfriend laughing every time he takes his top off! I struggle to put on weight, like i have tried everything, so is it still worth working out, even if im skinny? Or do i need bit of weight first. will i look worse without putting on weight, but putting on more muscle?

I feel your answers could just be what i need!!

dump the girlfriend.. you are what you are!
You would want to do some weights work if you want to build muscle rather than cardio work which will lose you fat but also tone. but i also agree with Sara if your girlfriend doesnt like you for what you are then why is she with you?

it was just to make a point. The cluts of the question was, if i work out (weights, no cardio, muscle building stuff) will i look stupid if im a little bit on the skinny side, or will the muscle bring me out a bit?
You need weights. Nothing else will build you up.

I know how to build muscle, im just wondering if it will look stupid if i have this muscle and no fat, like will i look like bruce lee (i.e. rele skinny, rele defined and kinda gross)
at 18 i was also 5'10 and weighed even less than you. i was a skinny bean pole.

it all changes when you get into your mid/late 20's so make the most of it now. as long as you are fit and healthy you should look fine just as you are.

thats nice wy of looking at it ha. I just fancy looking good whilst i still can. I want to be able to lift more than a bottle of water, and im prepared to do it - but ever since i got ill i cant put back on ym weight and i was wondering if working out being skinny will make me look just kinda sickly because there is so little fat to balance out the definition.
Your local gym should be able to help you with regards to diet and exercise......you can take supplements to bulk up, just don't take anything naughty.
Think yourself lucky, mate. I too was 10 1/4 at 18 .. and a busy engineer and now builder, too. I am now in 40's and I still still only "pinch 1/2 an inch, and now 11 1/2. You can laugh later at the ones laughing at you now.
