Ouch - had a tooth taken out today (5 hours ago) Have come home with some aftercare instructions which I'm sticking to. Bit worried about the bleeding. I can stop it easy enough but then it might start up again. Anyone know when it will stop completely and I no longer have to drink blood flavoured water? What the worst possible scenario if it does continue to bleed longer than it should?

Thanks

Instructions are telling me not to rinse for at least 6 hours but preferably 24. I think I'm just worrying that I'm going to bleed to death. Always was a worrier as a child - nothing's changed there!
Well in an hour or so are they saying warm salty water? or have things changed? that always used to be the way with extractions, don't start worrying, I doubt you are losing much blood, it really should start to ease off soon, Ray
i was told to bite down on a rolled up cotton pad when i had my tooth out last year. you could drink through a straw to stop tasting the blood in your drinks.
hi there
Ray's right, the warm salt water will cleanse and not harm the raw sore bit. Try to keep your tongue away from the hole, and if you can, don't eat any solids til tomorrow - soup, juices, etc. Don't worry though, it will stop bleeding, it's just traumatic as it's in your mouth, and feels like more than it really is. You have my sympathy - I had 4 out recently, and it wasn't nice.
Yes warm salt water the bleeding can be very alarming but it is often so with a tooth, you will be fine x x x x x x x
scoobydooby it should have stopped almost by now. your blood will start to clot over. It alswas looks worse in your mouth as the saliva is mixed with it. my poor little granddaughter only 5 , had to have a double tooth taken out the other week because of an abcess. hers stopped bleeding within a few hours. keep your tongue out of the hole though or it well start to bleed again. hope you feeling better tomorrow.
