I have just had the flu and it wiped me out. It was followed within a day (just when I thought I was getting better) by a gastric type thing for a few days. Needless to say after all that I was shattered and just slept. Although I feel alot better now just the thought of going back to the gym is tiring me out! When is the best time to go back? Give it a week or so then go back? What do you reckon? It is doing my head in not being 'up to going'. Thanks.

I had flu a couple of months ago and left it about a week before going back to the gym, and even then I took it easy, and just walked on the treadmill and did a few light weights for the first few times. I did feel guilty about not going but just wasn't physically up to it.
ah the guilt! whenever i stop for some genuine reason for a week, it drags out to three. do you have a steam room at your gym? that's so good for a cold and it gets you back into it slowly.... also i hope you are eating lots of fresh fruit and veg and drink ginger boiled in water with honey and lemon all the time til you get better.

I've had a cold, and tummy bug for the past week or so, though I am now on the path to recovery. However my personal trainer has advised me to stay away until I am fully recovered, I won't be seeing her until next week.

So I would say give yourself another week to recover completely.

whatever you do dont go back till you feel fit and when you do return the first time take it easy. I returned to early once and it made me worse than I was in the first place, listen to your body not those guilty feelings about not attending.
ive just gone throu 4 weeks of illness, cold/flu, conjuntivitis, gasto thingy...its wiped me out but i feel bad i havnt been to gym either....espeically as i really had noticed my fitness levels really increase...today i feel much better but im going to wait at least a week before heading back to gym, its not worth over doing it all because of being too impatient.

hey

this is goin to sound wierd...but....

js think how u feel now and can u imagine yourself running/lifting/ or wateva u do at the gym??

if u can, happily and REALLY then go, and try it! if u find u cant cope then leave it abit and try again

hope this helps
